Project pinebeetle

Alright, well the mountain pine beetle is really eating up a ton of forests, and it's releasing a LOT of Co2 into the air. So I decided, since new trees would just get destroyed by the pine beetle again, why not find a crop (Preferably edible, inedible is just as good) that absorbs the most Co2 in the world (Next to trees). Basically, I'm looking to offset the Co2 that's being released in the forest by growing another crop. Once all the forests are destroyed, the pinebeetle population will die down, and we can replant the forests. Any suggestions?

Cheap projects

I just recently joined Instructables, and I'm looking for cheap (not necessarily simple) projects that involve mechanics or making anything out of easily found materials. Something like LostRite's hidden blade or this Mechanical Hand. I'm in high school and don't yet have a job, so many of the projects i find are out of my budget. Thanks for any of your suggestions!

Project for Children

I am looking to do a fairly simple children's gardening project at a Green Fair that is being held in March.  In the past, the group has had the kids transplant seedlings.  Does anyone have any ideas?  I think that there must be much better "quick" projects.

Future Projects

Well, I am bored, so I thought I would give an outline of my planned projects I have planned so far. They are in the order I plan upon doing them, and I am going to attempt to give a rough estimate of how long it will take me.  First up there is a dragon. It leans towards the European side, if a little flatter than what is considered "normal". I have most of him complete, and he should be completed by next Monday. (He is completed and you can find him here I can't say anything about this project at the moment, as it is a gift for another instructables member. The project itself will take two or three weeks and be posted at the beginning of June. (This project is done, but can not be posted yet) Next I have a triforce from the Legend of Zelda franchise planned. It will be three dimensial, and I hope to make it able to stand up on its own. It will take a week, maybe two. (Completed and can be found here) Most likely to be the last project started in May, I want to make a jumping mouse from the movie Coraline. The key word there is want. I may not be able to follow through on it. It all depends if I can find a way to do all of the small pieces well, and if I can find a yarn color that I like. These are all projects that I want to do, but do not have a date or an order to do them in. The last project could be placed down here, but I know I will spend at least a day figuring out if I can do it or not at the end of May.  Finishing up a simple, but tedious project I have started a good while ago. I may just take it with me when I go places and work it when I am going places. I don't know. It needs to get done though. The project, by the way, is crocheting with thread around a headphone cord. Very tedious. In case you missed it, I have a thing for dragons, and I also want an oriental dragon. So that will happen at some point. For yet another dragon, I have a little one that I cartoon sometimes that I would like to make a version of. I m not sure if I really want to make, but at the same time I do. I also want another hat. I have several hats already, but there is a really cute one I saw that I want to make.  I want to make another pokemon. Maybe a Skrelp or a Dralage or perhaps a life size Joltik. One other note is, I am a student and final exams are approaching rapidly. It is entirely and likely possible that the projects will be delayed slightly due to extra study time. June Update: The next project is going to be a Skrelp from the Pokemon franchise. It has not been started but it is slotted to. I have recently purchased a jig, so I will be playing with it a lot. I may just be copying other's designs, but a few of my own my slip through as well. I have tentative plans to recreate Kyube from Madoka Magica. I have several papercraft projects spinning around in my head. Mostly drawing out templates to recreate some of my favorite characters. I am unsure if I will post them on instructables, as I am unsure as how I would manage it. If any one has any suggestions, I would love to here them. I have an instructable planned on how to do negative word art, and one working with zentangles as well. It will be a while before either happens, as I want more practice first.

World Clock Project

The World Clock Project takes a creative look at time. By taking clocks from around the world they're mixing time-zones and still keeping a relative view. It's thought provocative to think about time and how important it is to the human experience. Time is our most valuable currency, it's really the only thing we have. So it's interesting to see how important keeping track of it has been, we've been using Obelisks as sundials for over 5000 years, some of the most ancient artifacts from egypt were built to keep track of time. It's good to see that The World Clock Project is keeping time on our minds. Give it a shot, upload your clock and let us know where it is[http://world clock project upload http://worldclockproject.org/]-bg

Arduino Projects ITT

I've been doing research into some home brewed add-on people have made for Arduino. I was surprised to find that there are a ton of custom shields that people have developed and sell right now (check this out: http://shieldlist.org/).  This gave me some ideas for developing products myself. I'm trying to gauge what people are looking for in new Arduino product. If you could take a really quick survey that I designed to test the market, I'd really appreciate it? Here is a link to it: https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/PTSDD8Z Please let me know what you guys think would make great products for Arduino! On a related point, I was wondering about the feasibility of a brushless motor shield. I am working on an Arduino based dual rotor mulicopter with some friends (here is a link: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC566tCzMbp-S5ThKuPQO_6g. We aren't too far in yet). I think for others that make "Arducopter", it would be nice to do away with external ESCs for controlling brushless motors. I think it would be far more convenient to have a shield that acts as a substitute for ESCs and also act as a power distribution platform for on board components. Is it dangerous to be running that much current on a PCB on top of an Arduino? Would it be wise to connect a 3S LiPo in parallel with the shield ESC and an Arduino, or could that damage my Arduino? Thanks in advice for the help!

Plexi-Project Help

Hello everyone, I've been looking at LED projects and devising my own for quite some time now. What i finally decided on was a Plexi glass tube containing a bonsai tree, with an LED array above to give it light. My plan for the LED array is squared away. and i have selected my tube (diameter of 8in). My hold up is the base and the roof of the tube. I want a fairly heavy material which can be machined to yield a snug fit. Does anyone one have any suggestions for the material or a possible source? if at all possible i would like this component to be less than 30$.

macePod - The procession project

Hi Art+Tech lovers Is it possible to track a simple object and calculate it's distance with an Arduino + (Arduino-)camera. I would use a simple tele lens so the distance between the camera and the object can range between 0.5 and 10 meters. The camera can be mounted on 2 servo motors for pan-tilt movement. Everything sits on top of a 2m pole, carried by a person.  And best wishes for 2016! Philippe

Little Windmill Project

Hey everyone a while ago I was cleaning out my closet and found a little micano car, it had a motor on it I was wondering is it possible to use that to generate a little bit of wind energy, if so can someone who knows alot in this field explain how to I intend to have it as a show thing and is it possible to have different colored LED's and if it is windy it will light the all 3 and if its not it will light like 1 or 2 sort of like a wind gage. Anyway thanks for reading sorry if this is a stupid idea.

Project: bead printer

Hey everyone! My name is Michael and I have a project I'm working on: a fuse beads automatic "printer". After I got my mechanical eng. degree I was looking for a project to prove to myself it was worth it. I guess being a maker was my secret ambition, and I felt I needed some project to be proud of.  While babysitting my little cousins and doing some works with Perler beads, I thought to myself: hey! this is cool- I should try making something bigger! and so, as my works grew larger, I began to wonder- can I make it automatic?   What are fuse beads?  These are small beads made from plastic that come in various colors, and can melt under a regular home iron. Its a kids toy- you place a pattern on a mat, iron it- and get cool results. google it!   What is it supposed to do?  The idea is simple: place individual beads of various colors on a mat full of small spikes according to a pattern. sounds simple, doesn't it? I think its good to first look at a 2 color (black-white) simple scheme and try to print it on a small part of the board. Once the mechanical part is finished, the real programming will start.   Some numbers:  The beads are about 5[mm] in diameter and in height. A typical board is 30X30 spikes. A piece could usually contains 2-10 main colors.   !!STOP!!! Before you read my concept, I would like to know- how would you try to make this project? I have had this idea in my mind for over a year now, and I'm looking for new ideas.   The concept so far: As I've mentioned, its been a long journey already. I am far from having a working prototype and am open to suggestions. The "printer" I designed is similar to a CNC machine: a tube has 15 beads in it. The tube is moved above the board, placing the beads. Refill will be done manually since I wish to prove the mechanics first. I made the printer with Lego and an NXT controller and engines, simply because I had it at home. I tried making a 2 axis motion using a rack and gear (with transmission), moving a tube with beads in it. To my dread, the beads do not like falling off when placed on top of one another (in the tube), so I used a third engine, converting the rotary motion into linear one, applying a small force over the tube to prevent the beads from falling, moving them to the next position, than letting go. I discovered the engines are not as accurate as I would have wanted, and the results are meh. I will add some pictures at a later time as I need to re-assemble it.     Thanks a lot for reading, and I hope we can make this dream come true- lets have some fun!

Ballerina Jewelry Box Project

Hello, I am interested in creating a jewelry box for my niece. The idea is to laser-cut a custom box which I think I can find templates of online and create an SVG file with some art for the laser cutter. I plan to 3D print a ballerina as well. I initially thought of running the electronics with Arduino - but prefer to keep it simple.  I want to have a custom song/melody playing - I was thinking of perhaps some sort of a recording/playback speaker where I can record the song initially and then have it play back - ideas? For simplicity - do you think it is possible to run a simple circuit with a couple AA/AAA batteries, a hinge control (ideas for something that will do the trick and act as a switch are very much welcome too), a speaker, and some sort of a stepper motor/servo to spin the ballerina. I would love to get some ideas and supplies from you. This should be a pretty straightforward, simple project but I don't have much electronic experience and am not sure what to search to find the technology I need. Thank you, KoMoDo

Help me with my hydroponics problem. Please!

The directions were great. Except, now that I got my air pump going and everything else, there is a smell coming from it. It smells like garbage. Also, when the bubbles come up to the surface there's a bunch of bubbles left at the surface...it looks like a bubble bath. The first time this happen with the smell I just got another air stone. So, now I have two in the container. I emptied the old water and solution, cleaned the container and add more water with fertilizer. This worked great, but then two weeks later it was time for me to put fresh water again and now it's doing the same thing with the garbage smell. Please give me some ideas on how to get rid of this.

Advanced Helmet

Advanced Helmet By: Arseny Ratnikov I want to create a helmet that looks like a sci fi helmet (mass effect, titanfall, halo, etc.) and that; **Want to make cool helmet, need help with having multiple camera feed output to multiple screens** * Protects my head (able to decrease force from impact by significant degree) * Can filter the air I breath (does not need to be super extreme filter, just filter out general junk, the better the filter the more pleased I am, but if it becomes too bulky/expensive then it is unnecessary)(Optional/Most Likely) * Has a HUD with my vitals on it. I would wear some sensors, such as HR monitor to have some cool biofeedback, maybe also include other information.(option) * Maybe even have it be a digital display where there are cameras on the front and maye back of the helmet that then are displayed on the interior screen, where I have voice commands setup for some different things. * Have the helmet be as sound proof as possible and have microphones where my ears would be, then inside the helmet speakers, so that I can modify the noise around me to be how I want it to be. I understand this would be rather difficult (at least including all of the bullets) and that it could even be a touch silly. Yet, I find this a rather intriguing pursuit and think it will help contribute to becoming a cyborg. Any tips would be greatly appreciated as I don't really know where to start for this. I can imagine a lot of the work might be done on an arduino, but I simply don't know the feasibility of modifying noises of the world around you and having the cameras on the helmet. So here's a little prioritization sheet I worked out, it is not exactly in order, and maybe you all have some suggestions on what might be more critical to design and functionality. Prioritization 1. Functionality a. Head protection a1. Padding/Inertia dampener a2. Sturdy/solid b. Control of phone through bluetooth b1. In helmet speakers b2. In helmet microphone b3. Voice control c. Control of other systems such as screens c1. Voice control of screens c2. Screen modification c3. Screen HUD and other functions (maybe GPS map, time, etc.) d. Camera view d1. Camera live to screen with little to no latency d1a. 360 degree view compressed to 180 degree screen (maybe) d2. Computer control of camera feed d2a. Visuals, different HUDs e. Sound modulation e1. Sound cancelling e2. Sound reproduction at low to no latency e3. Sound modification e3a. Changing pitch e3b. Change decibel levels e3c. Change relative level of external sounds f. The HUD f1. Display of vitals f1a. Heart rate, oxygenation, etc. (Requires some monitor) f2. Display of time and other running interests f3. Display of current location on google maps/GPS system g. Air Filtration g1. Filtration of air, relatively high quality g2. Seal on head or seal over mouth and nose or full body suit that connects to helmet h. Extra Features 2. Style a. Look good b. Look like popular sci-fi media c. Does not interfere with functionality and accents functionality How should I do this? I am planning on using some old phone screens if I can for the screen part and multiple cameras. I plan on using a raspberry computing system (might need multiple) to modulate the output from the cameras. How could I make multiple camera outputs lay onto multiple screens that looks good at three to five inches from the eyes? Also how can I make the raspberry pi control my phone and computer via voice, or at least change a screens properties? Thanks

Halloween blinking eyes LED project

A pair of red LEDs which blink in an approximation of the glowing red eyes of some baleful critter lurking in the shadows behind me as I hand out candy to the kids. I figure to poke the LEDs through a piece of cardboard sprayed with flat black paint. Half a dozen sets of light would make for a pretty scary pack of, well, something. Just the thing for Halloween. I don't have the technical background to do this but it seems like it might be fun and cheap.

How to sell projects you made?

Hey again, those of you in the internet world. I am a maker in high school, and have been wondering how makers can make money. I have repeatedly been asked if someone could buy something off me (usually an ipod charger/etc), but I somehow feel that I am cheating them or ripping them off (if I tell them a price high enough to make a profit).  Let me say now, I am not huge on actually talking to people :) so making a deal to sell something or actively seeking out people to make deals with is hard. I guess thats the price to pay for being antisocial :D One kid I know, and it makes me so mad because he is really good at it, managed to basically sell laser pointers to 50% of the kids at school for a 100% profit on each one..... Another problem I have run into is that of rights- for example if I take a design off of online, or generally instructables, and then make it and sell it, I feel as if I took some money away from the person who posted that idea. So anyone have any tips for a kid in high school trying to make some $$ on the side? I could make a business of of fixing ipod screens but I tried once and ended up having to buy a whole new ipod for a kid because I accidentally clipped a cable whole disassembling.

call for ideas and projects for a new publication

The Wild Pansy Press Book of Rainy Day Activities A Call for Works The Wild Pansy Press will be producing a publication in which a range of artists, designers, activists make concrete suggestions for new cultural activities in a Post-Credit-Crunch society, with an emphasis on the practical, the sustainable, the challenging and the subversive... The book will be a collection of templates, instructions and recipes which can be used to make or to generate Art works in the widest sense. The book will include some pieces about ideas raised by the projects as well as the "instructions" and templates, parts lists, supplier contacts, artists' information and plenty of visual material. Everything will be copyright-free and we will encourage readers to get back to us with their own ideas or adaptations of the pieces The book will be our contribution to the exhibition CRUNCHTIME: artists' responses to the global credit crisis and its timetable of associated events and will be available free at the main exhibition venue in York for the duration of the 8-day event in February 2010 and will then be on sale through various distributors, independent bookshops and galleries worldwide and from our own website. In addition, larger-format supporting items such as detailed plans, circuit diagrams and motivational posters will be also available as free downloads from the Wild Pansy site. The publication will be a squared-off A4 format (210 x 210 mm) and its design will reflect the contents. We are currently negotiating funding to cover the costs of making selected "prototypes" by contributors. So we invite you to submit your ideas, proposals and plans for things to make, things to perform, things to read, models for organisation, models for action, recipes for (avoiding) disaster, recipes for big dinners... to: info@wildpansypress.com www.wildpansypress.com

In need of help. What can I do to make my craft project better and more popular?

I had recently made my own school bag out of some, of my excessive amount, of scrap fabric, took pictures of its creation, and then added it to instructables.   I have minimal views and no comments. I feel that I have done something wrong in making it or showing how I made it.   Can someone give me advice on how to make this better for future references.  I know it is entered in the back to school contest but I am not trying to make myself win now, since I messed up.  I just want to fix it for later. Thoughts on painting a toilet seat?

Hey folks! I wanted to tap the collective mind of the Instructables community on this one: We recently did a radical redecoration of our bathroom. One of the only things that wasn't touched so far was the toilet. Rather than getting a new (probably boring) toilet seat- I'd like to try painting the old one (I'm talking about the SEAT here, not the cover). Is it feasible for a long-term part of the bathroom, do you think? I've never really painted anything like this before- what paints / techniques would folks recommend? I was thinking of sanding down the surface, applying a rust-colored enamel (with some black patterns), and then a goodly amount of clear coating. Appreciate any thoughts (even if they are "Hey, that won't work- suck it up and sit on a boring seat like the rest of us"). Obviously any work will be documented and submitted to the site : ).

30-day project: A drawing every day

Inspired by Ed's post on "30-day projects", I decided to jump in: I'll make a drawing every day. I enjoy drawing a lot, but I rarely take the time or opportunity to do it. So, thanks to Ed, here I go. I started on Aug. 12, so the 30th drawing will be posted shortly after Sept. 11. To make it a little easier for myself, I made up some "rules": In thirty days, 30 drawings must be made Skipping one day is allowed, but the drawing that wasn't made must be made on another day within the 30 days. I cannot skip drawing on two consecutive days. A drawing is made on a A3 sized sheet of plain paper I use pencils and/or  black fineliners to draw with I must only obey the first three rules. I allow myself to diverge from the other rules if I feel like it. I'll post pics of the drawings here, starting with the first five days. Feel free to comment on the pics (or to give me a subject)! (for aesthetic reasons only, I switched the pics of day 1 and 2 :-))

Want collaborators for a solar hot water project

I have had this idea for a while and I decided to try and make it a collaboration instead of just trying to do it by myself. I thought there was a way to start a collaborative instructable, but I don't see that option now. Does anyone out there know how to do a collaborative instructable? Maybe that option appears right before you publish it? I don't know if the best way to share ideas is this forum, or the collaborative instructable (if it exists). ******** Here is the idea: I have a solar box cooker, which is shown in this instructable. On days when I have nothing to cook, I often put a kettle of water in it, so when I get home from work I have very hot water that can be used for cooking pasta, making  tea, coffee etc. I pour that water into a thermos, and it will stay hot until the next day. I would like to design and build a solar cooker that is dedicated to this task with this tentative list of requirements: *It would be fairly small, just large enough to hold a kettle *It would be easy to put the kettle in and take it out *It would be weatherproof, so it could sit outside for months at a time *It would be designed in such a way that it would collect energy from the Sun during a large portion of the day, without need of any sun-tracking mechanism *Ideally, it would have a mechanism that would transfer the water to a thermos as soon as it boiled, or got to a certain temperature. Looking forward to hearing from people who want to collaborate on this. As soon as we have decided on where to share ideas, I'll post mine.

Designer seeks collaboration with Electronics/Tech Guru for Installation

Hi,my names Dan and I am a Designer (and current MA Product design student) interested in submitting an entry to this:http://www.onedotzero.com/submissions.php (deadline for the show in september is May 29th)During my MA came up with a concept and design for an interactive installation that I would like to enter into the above event which will be installed at the BFI southbank in London.Basically, the project will involve the use of Electronics (sensors, microcontrollers, maybe some programming) to trigger light and audio, for an experiential installation.I need someone who can help me construct the kit list, and help with the 'how to' part of this project, thus enabling us to submit a Budget. If chosen we would then go on to install the project on-site.A UK/London based collaborator would be preferred for ease of commuting/meeting if this were to happen and our project selected.Someone from the site who knows their away touch sensors/controllers, LED and other electronics wiring, with perhaps a smideling of programming , who likes getting involved in creative and design based projects should contact me in the first instance to find out more:Role is not paid, but opportunities would abound!Heres hoping!danskimanuk(at)yahoo.co.uk

Any ideas for what to do with an old vacuum cleaner?

OK, my wife bought a new vacuum cleaner today and I assumed that meant that she would like me to create something out of our old one. Doe s anyone have any good ideas besides a hovercraft? Keep it simple, because I'm a beginner. Maybe a jetpack or something? Seriously though there must be something interesting that can be made from all those parts.
