Pop-up tents

Has anyone ever made or taken apart a pop-up tent or hamper or whatnot? I really would like to know what kind of wire they use and how they do it. I think it would make for some interesting and versatile set pieces.I'm thinking along the lines of this type of thing.

Wood-framed mesh "tent" to grow strawberries; How-tos needed!

Hello, I'm looking for some help in constructing a wood-framed mesh "tent" to grow strawberries. The strawberries are visible through the screen that's stapled to the wood frame in a tent shape. It looks like you can lift off the triangular "roof" to collect strawberries, prune, etc. Just saw this in a Sunset Magazine ( February 2009 issue, page 32G) as well as in someone's backyard during a garden tour this spring. It looks like it would keep the berries protected from predators. Does anyone know how to make such a thing? Thanks!

How do you build an indoor grow tent with a PVC pipe frame?

I'd like to build a grow tent for a space with a 2' x 2' footprint and have it be anywhere from 4'-6' tall. I'm hoping to get some good suggestions on frame design, how to include a spill reservoir and how to attach the siding (which will by mylar or some other plastic.  My ideal grow tent would be like the one in the photo, but with the footprint I need (2' x 2'). I cannot find a tent with such.

Mounting a blade sign to a tent pole—best methods?

Hi there! I'm doing deco for a large event where there will be a line of vendors in pole tents—the kind you typically see at festivals and fairs, with a white top and stuff. I want to see if it's doable to have blade signs hanging for each vendor, mounted to one of the frame poles of the tent. The signs' construction is variable depending on the mounting methodology, I'm thinking the more lightweight the better. One method I was thinking about would be using zip ties to snugly attach a 90 degree bracket to the tent frame pole and hang the sign from the perpendicular arm, but I don't know if zip ties would be sturdy enough. These don't have to withstand a hurricane but do need to be sturdy enough to withstand the occasional nudge or shake by workers/drunk people. I should also emphasize that the tents will be rented, so no permanent alterations can be done (i.e. no soldering brackets to tent frames...) Thoughts/suggestions/possible drawbacks? THANK YOU

Where can I buy cheap land and legally live in a tent or yurt full-time?

I was wondering if anyone knew of a state or town in the US where I could buy a small, cheap piece of land and legally live in a tent or a yurt full-time? I really didnt even know where to begin looking for advice on this....So Im hoping some awesome person on this website will have ideas. These are the things I am more specifically looking for: I would like to move to an area that doesn't get much (if any) snow. I would like to buy no more then about 5 acres in the woods somewhere, and do NOT need utilities or buildings, and I would be fine living on logged land and possibly "problem land". The land would have to have access by road...And preferably no further then 30-40 minutes from a town. Oh, and I won't live in Florida. If anyone has any ideas or suggestions, please let me know! Thank you!! Ryan

I want to start making LED art, but have no idea where to begin.

Is there anywhere I can find a very VERY basic tutorial? FAQs? Some dos and don'ts? List of commonly needed tools and materials.... stuff like that? I would very much love to craft a small outdoor LED art signpost for my tent at a festival next month. Thank you! Peace and love!

How can I clean out the crinkly pipes in a forced air heating system?

I live in an RV and am allergic to dust and animals - the forced air heating plays havoc with my allergies. Is there some kind of duster on a flexible rod I could use to get rid of some of the accumulated muck that's doubtless in the tubes? Or something I could stick on the end of a carbon fiber tent pole? The ducts are about 10' long, curve around 90 degrees (over the space of a couple of feet) and are similar to the vents you get from dryers.

Roadtripping Accommodations and Equipment?

My best friend and I are planning a cross-country roadtrip this summer 2010. Starting out in Kansas City, MO, we plan on driving to Los Angeles and back within two weeks or so. Most of our money will probably go towards gas and food, so saving as much as possible when it comes to sleeping is very important. We're more than willing to camp, both in a tent and even in the car. There is an idea of staying in towns and cities for a few days at a time to increase our time abroad // our overall experience. If anyone has any tips, tricks, or anything else to offer, please let me know! Thanks much.

Rougham Kite Festival 2008 - PHOTOS

Single-line, stunt and power kites, plus giant inflatables that need small trucks to anchor them.Artistic displays, stunt shows. Kites to try, kites to buy, kites to make.A high-altitude licence (UK law normally restricts kites to around 60 metres - the festival gets special permission to fly to hundreds of metres) and a real-ale tent. What more could you need? Even the long-term forecast is promising (as opposed to the year before last, when one of the trilobites broke free and landed several villages away).I plan to be there (wearing a Robot tee) do you?LinkEDIT: I took a few photos - I put 84 of them on Flickr

Easiest low voltage cutoff (ensure minimum startup amperage for solar fan project.)

So, if I weren't so electronically derped, I'd know this. I've seen a few easy ideas for a 12v solar fan.  Basically stick a capacitor on it. However, I'm trying to work from a few low amperage panels (~100ma@12v total).  Since I want this to keep my tent feeling cooler once the sun comes up, I don't want to be stuck for an hour or two in the morning until the minimum amperage comes out of the panels. Anyone have an easy idea of what I could use with simple parts from scavenge boards or electronics teaching kits to make it have a low voltage cutoff (so that it won't go to the fan until it hits a minimum voltage on the capacitor (so that it has a minimum startup amperage))  That way, even in the morning, at least it would pulse on for small whiles even when it didn't have enough power.

Want collaborators for a solar hot water project

I have had this idea for a while and I decided to try and make it a collaboration instead of just trying to do it by myself. I thought there was a way to start a collaborative instructable, but I don't see that option now. Does anyone out there know how to do a collaborative instructable? Maybe that option appears right before you publish it? I don't know if the best way to share ideas is this forum, or the collaborative instructable (if it exists). ******** Here is the idea: I have a solar box cooker, which is shown in this instructable. On days when I have nothing to cook, I often put a kettle of water in it, so when I get home from work I have very hot water that can be used for cooking pasta, making  tea, coffee etc. I pour that water into a thermos, and it will stay hot until the next day. I would like to design and build a solar cooker that is dedicated to this task with this tentative list of requirements: *It would be fairly small, just large enough to hold a kettle *It would be easy to put the kettle in and take it out *It would be weatherproof, so it could sit outside for months at a time *It would be designed in such a way that it would collect energy from the Sun during a large portion of the day, without need of any sun-tracking mechanism *Ideally, it would have a mechanism that would transfer the water to a thermos as soon as it boiled, or got to a certain temperature. Looking forward to hearing from people who want to collaborate on this. As soon as we have decided on where to share ideas, I'll post mine.

Future Projects

Well, I am bored, so I thought I would give an outline of my planned projects I have planned so far. They are in the order I plan upon doing them, and I am going to attempt to give a rough estimate of how long it will take me.  First up there is a dragon. It leans towards the European side, if a little flatter than what is considered "normal". I have most of him complete, and he should be completed by next Monday. (He is completed and you can find him here I can't say anything about this project at the moment, as it is a gift for another instructables member. The project itself will take two or three weeks and be posted at the beginning of June. (This project is done, but can not be posted yet) Next I have a triforce from the Legend of Zelda franchise planned. It will be three dimensial, and I hope to make it able to stand up on its own. It will take a week, maybe two. (Completed and can be found here) Most likely to be the last project started in May, I want to make a jumping mouse from the movie Coraline. The key word there is want. I may not be able to follow through on it. It all depends if I can find a way to do all of the small pieces well, and if I can find a yarn color that I like. These are all projects that I want to do, but do not have a date or an order to do them in. The last project could be placed down here, but I know I will spend at least a day figuring out if I can do it or not at the end of May.  Finishing up a simple, but tedious project I have started a good while ago. I may just take it with me when I go places and work it when I am going places. I don't know. It needs to get done though. The project, by the way, is crocheting with thread around a headphone cord. Very tedious. In case you missed it, I have a thing for dragons, and I also want an oriental dragon. So that will happen at some point. For yet another dragon, I have a little one that I cartoon sometimes that I would like to make a version of. I m not sure if I really want to make, but at the same time I do. I also want another hat. I have several hats already, but there is a really cute one I saw that I want to make.  I want to make another pokemon. Maybe a Skrelp or a Dralage or perhaps a life size Joltik. One other note is, I am a student and final exams are approaching rapidly. It is entirely and likely possible that the projects will be delayed slightly due to extra study time. June Update: The next project is going to be a Skrelp from the Pokemon franchise. It has not been started but it is slotted to. I have recently purchased a jig, so I will be playing with it a lot. I may just be copying other's designs, but a few of my own my slip through as well. I have tentative plans to recreate Kyube from Madoka Magica. I have several papercraft projects spinning around in my head. Mostly drawing out templates to recreate some of my favorite characters. I am unsure if I will post them on instructables, as I am unsure as how I would manage it. If any one has any suggestions, I would love to here them. I have an instructable planned on how to do negative word art, and one working with zentangles as well. It will be a while before either happens, as I want more practice first.
