Paper airplane videography

Allow me to share the methods I used to make my video. I hope this will help somebody out there do it even better. First, was the problem of capturing the plane in flight. I had chosen to make a fast model. A bad choice, from the point of filming it fly. If I stand back far enough to catch the entire flight, it becomes just a dot and you cannot tell whether it is a plane or a stone inside a ball of paper. If I stand close enough so that it fills the frame, then it just ... is gone. My solution was to get the best of the flights I could grab, and fill in the rest of the time with the process of construction. You can see in the video the paper apparently folding itself. It isn't. You are seeing it being unfolded, pulled by fine wires, played backwards. I have tried to edit out the wires, but in some frames the results are glaringly obvious. The movie itself was captured by a camera pointed downwards and the plane being launched into its field of view. Seen from the side, the plane is just not discernible as a plane. So I had to get a view from the top or bottom. If the camera is pointed upwards, the bright sky obliterates everything else. I used Fast Movie Processor, VirtualDub and Irfanview as detailed in my instructable on Time Lapse Movies. And the still images were captured by my scanner. Using the scanner is not my idea, I learned it from Don Lancaster at www.tinaja.com Hope this helps, or is of interest to, somebody out there.

What's the difference between paper mache and paper clay?

I want to try making my own paper clay or paper mache for sculpting projects (like lightweight small pumpkin people for Halloween), but various instructables use one term or the other. Is there a difference, and if so, what kinds of projects would you recommend using each product for? Thanks.

Starburst Paper Mache. Help!

So I'm planing on covering a wooden Kleenex box with Starburst wrappers. However I'm not sure what type of liquid adhesive I should use. Is a glue/water mixture good enough? Is there anything on the market that I should use? Any homemade concoctions that would do the job? Any recommendations on how to give it a gloss finish? I'd appreciate any input you have as to what I should use. Thanks.

Making Paper Mache Waterproof

I want to make paper mache garden pots, if possible, so it would be paper/flour and need to be covered in something that would not ruin the artwork/shape. I have not tried any sealants out yet, thought I would ask and see if anyone has experience with this or something similar. I have looked up some Kryolan products, but am unfamiliar with what these sealants and stuff even do. Like what is epoxy or resin? Please help me out, thanks!

Homemade wax paper wrappings? Answered

Hello everyone! This is the first time I've used this feature on Instructables, so here goes. :) I'm trying to recreate vintage sweet wrappers for a friend who will use them in a film he's making for uni, and I wondered if I could somehow impregnate the wrappers in wax to make them "chocolate proof" so I could let a friend re-live times from long ago. :) I'd be using standard printer paper and inkjet ink, would this survive the waxing? Also how would I coat the paper in a layer of wax thin enough not to crack when the package is assembled? I was also planning on heat sealing the edges wsing a warmed metal tooling to first fold the paper into a tube, then crimp the edges. Thanks for any help :) (Sorry if this is in the wrong section, as its technically a wax and paper mess-afound i think it's closer to Art than anything else. :) )

How to sand without sand paper?

So my question is, is there a fairly efficient way to sand  something without using sandpaper? I am doing a project for haiti, and i just realized a breakdown in a system. Sandpaper would add a huge cost to anything.  Right to what it is used for: I was wondering, if anyone have any simple ideas on how to sand soda cans after cutting them into sheets? Solutions i can think of in context with whats available in Haiti is may be rubbing the sheets against concrete or even in a sand box?  I am just thinking, back in the old days, before sand paper, how did people do it? any ideas would be really appreciated!

SUSTAINABLE MAGAZINE NAPKIN RING

These napkin rings go well with the waffle coasters to create a set on the dining table. The colors of the magazines give it a bohemian charm. Finish the ring with lacquer for easy cleaning and durability.INSTRUCTIONS: www.projectfidgetyfingers.blogspot.comMeasure the length and the circumference of a toilet roll.Fold magazine sheets into quarters. Once cut into quarters, fold it into half and then 1/3 and ½ again. Measure the width of the strip and match it according too the circumference of the toilet roll. It should match, giving some allowance of the thickness of the strips. Work out the thickness of the napkin ring. We have measured out 1/3 of the toilet roll, including allowance for the thickness of the strip.Use glue stick to stick the strips onto the toilet roll for placement and ease of weaving. Weave and tuck loose ends into the square weaves.Finish with lacquer.

How do I manufacture this paper/pulp detail?

I have a small detail (abt 50x35x20mm) that I want to take from 3D to reality. It would be easy to just send it to the local 3D print hub, but the issue is that I want it in some kind of paper pulp material, or some other material that can withstand heat and also be lightweight. I know that there exists 3D printers that can print in paper, but I haven't been able to locate a print shop with such a machine. For prototyping, I have cut kraft paper sections and glued together, but I'd like to find a faster way. There is also a production method for pulp moulding, but the shape of my detail is too complicated for this method. Any ideas of production methods or materials that I could use instead? The detail can be split in 2 if neccessary, but I'd prefer not. Thanks in advance!
