Little Windmill Project

Hey everyone a while ago I was cleaning out my closet and found a little micano car, it had a motor on it I was wondering is it possible to use that to generate a little bit of wind energy, if so can someone who knows alot in this field explain how to I intend to have it as a show thing and is it possible to have different colored LED's and if it is windy it will light the all 3 and if its not it will light like 1 or 2 sort of like a wind gage. Anyway thanks for reading sorry if this is a stupid idea.

Paracord braided horse halter

Hi, I have challenged myself to make a braided paracord halter and I need LOTS of help.  I found one online that I really like and would like to duplicate.  I purchased a book "How to Braid Quality Custom Tack", however the halters in this book are not quite what I want.  Hoping someone will be able to give me some pointers or tell me where to find the directions I need. The picture of the halter I have attached is what I want to make.  It appears to me that you would need to start with the nose band to make this work but none of the patterns I have found start that way. Help!!

Flood Blacklight?

I know there is already some similar posts but i couldnt find anything relating specifically like this. I got a flood light with the intention of turning it into a flood black light. I want to light up a basketball court sized room using 4 at most. I have a few questions: 1) Is there any way to add anything to the front to turn this in to a black light (Don't need it to be UV rays as I know it's not likely. I just want it to make things fluoresce when it shines on them)? I'm looking at doing something similar to the sharpie black light hack. 2) This light puts good clear light for more the 40 yards. If there were a way to mod it into a black light, how much will it affect the range of good light? 3) Is there any way to connect the lighting to a battery pack or some sort of regular 3 pronged plug?

Solar oven theory

When looking at various solar oven on instructables, they almost all use refective coating of some sort on the inside. That to me makes sense for the concentrators/parabolic/funnel ovens, etc. I am just wondering if the regular box ovens if it really makes as much difference or if the heating factor there is more so just the still air in the box being heated and not able to escape. I want to start making solar ovens to get an idea of how they work. I have a square piece of 1/4 inch glass, probably 4 ft by 3 ft. I thought about just digging a cubic hole in the ground and laying the glass over top.

Making a mold.

I am trying to make a fascia panel for a car. In order to do that I need to make a cast of one of the voids in a panel, from a vehicle console, since it can't be measured easily. I want to make the cast so that I can then make an accurate template from which I can make the panel I need. I am looking for a material that is non-destructive to the plastic panel that contains the void. That will create a rigid solid replica of the void. I know nothing about making molds and casts. Thanks in advance.

Attempting my first custom figure - Ferra/Torr

Hello, I've decided to finally try my hand at doing a custom figure. I want to try and make Ferra/Torr from Mortal Kombat X. Little guys riding on big guys is one of my favorite things for some reason. I figure it's probably best to start with Torr (the big guy). Right now I'm looking for ideas on what to use for the base body. I'm leaning towards a Marvel Select Ultimate Hulk as my base figure. I like his facial expression and his hand situation - one closed fist and one open hand with big grody fingernails. I have some concerns though, I've heard his articulation isn't as good as some other MS hulks. Does anyone have some insight into this? Would I be able to get him into a sort of hunched over pose? The little picture on the left shows the size relations between Ferra/Torr and a regular person. I was kind of thinking of going with a bigger scale and using real materials for the cloth and armor and whatnot. I work in a metal shop, so I could probably make the metal bits and bobs. Again, I have no idea if that would be a nightmare or not. Thanks, Me

Need Advise on Building Large Arch Gate

I am trying to make a large arch-like gate out of foam. It would be about 8' high, it would have to stand on its own, it would have to be able to be broken apart into pieces and needs to be able to last in the elements. I was thinking of buying wet foam blocks (foam used by florists) and binding sets of them together and using spray foam to cover the outsides and paint it grey to make it look like rocks. It would be held together with dowels through each set of foam and have an anchor at the bottom using dowels hammered into the ground.  Inspiration for this design came from the vault from the Borderlands game series I wanted to know if anyone has seen guides for making a fake stone arch or if anyone had ideas for making this (Especially if the ideas aren't too expensive) Thanks

art: bowling balls

I began collecting a few bowling balls with the intention of making decorative art in my flower beds. I have a neighbor across the street who undoubtedly has so much disregard for me that he reported me to the city code enforcer who said bowling balls were against code. I had a supervisor come and look at my yard and the bowling balls and he said it is art. The other code enforcer has required that I "anchor" them down. Does anyone have any suggestions? I'm sure no matter what I do the neighbor will not like it. He hates my trees. I have humongous oaks and lots of plants and shrubs. He has complained for 16 years now. He sits on his front porch and watches everything I do. He reported I had rats. They found the rats nest on his property. He claims the termites come from my home. Believe me, I have a small brick ranch that I do all the upkeep on. I think he just can't stand it that he can't tell me what to do like he does the rest of the neighbors. I'm a woman-maybe that's his problem. Anyway, how do I "anchor" my bowling balls without taking away from the art of them in my flowerbeds? Please help me. I want to abide by the city codes.

Brown Dog Build Night at Banjarapalya Makerspace

Hey again from the Banjarapalya Makerspace, Last month we did quite a few build nights on the brown dog solar panels and the makers came up with some amazingly cool projects. It is clearly evident that our little rural makerspace is getting the taste of technology and the folks are loving it.  Some of the cool projects were - 1)a snake made out of paper cups and controlled by arduino run on a brown dog solar panel 2)a solar fan that can be clipped to your table or to your hand. Super portable. 3)a cute little touch piano, also fed by the sun 4)solar powered boat 5)a beautiful tree with LEDs powered too by the sun! Have attached some of the images. Please give feedback in comments to these projects so the makers can improve themselves and come up with cooler ideas.  Cheers, Abhijit

Growing roses from seeds

I have a pair of nice, perfumed roses that are getting quite old now. This season one of them produced a nice fruit containing 8 seeds. It is a light pink variety and I also obtained some seeds from a white perfumed rose. Last time I did this was with my grandfather and I was still a little kid LOL The common way of multiplying your roses is by grafting them onto a fresh stem of some wild or low quality roses. The reason for this is quite simple: A "manufacturered rose" is usually designed to look pretty and show certain other features, but not be a strong plant. When using seeds it all comes down to how strong the original mother rose was, not the stock it was crafted on. In some cases you end up with a little bush rose in other cases with something that grows so high that the stem will break in strong winds. But for the lucky few cases that do work good you are paid off with a beautiful new rose. For next couple of weeks the seeds will stay in the fridge to aid germination but if it works out I will take pics of the progress and document it all in an Instructable - but it will be about a year to finnish as roses grow slow from seeds. If I don't forget it again I will also show how to graft one rose onto another to get a bush with different varieties in one.

Precision Fiberglass Wood Lettering Cuts

A couple three or four years back I used a retired surfboard to illuminate my house address numbers. Cutting the fiberglass was a nightmare; it splintered, cracked and was nothing remotely close to precise or clean. I ended up cutting an open area in the deck of the surfboard [section where you'd typically stand]. I then used a jigsaw to carve a design of wood with address numbers inside. As an artist, I wasn't impressed with the outcome, but many, many others who've seen it seem to love it. Including those who purchased the house at our previous address. At any rate, I've been commissioned to create another, similar project. SInce it's going to be for someone else I'd really like it to be perfect; especially since my name will be associated. My question is, what tools are available [reasonable cost not an option -few hundred dollars give or take] in order to cut precision alpha-numeric characters in fiberglass or 1/8 to 1/4 wood completely through? I'd like sharp, nearly 90 degree angle on the characters/numbers. I've already tried a scroll saw on the fiberglass with less than desirable results. And the edges and corners were nothing close to 90 angles. My number '5' looked like the letter 'S'. Any help from you guys will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. Cheap colorless oil?

I like making these snow globe thingies, or just oil and glitter in a bottle. They fall slower when you use oil rather than just plain water, and I saw someone recommend baby oil. However, its a bit expensive just for this use, especially the colorless one. So I'm looking for any type of oil I can use for this project, that is cheaper than baby oil. As long as its clear/colorless.

confetti blower clogging

Hello everyone. I have a question which I think will be a simple one for you guys. I bought these mini confetti blowers for our church. They suck confetti, which are mainly small shiny rectangular pieces or some rose shaped paper-like material pieces, and blow them to the air. So ours came with a hose setup to suck the confetti: I decided to modify it to suck confetti from inside a box like these ones do: Here's a sketch of how it looks now with the box I made. What's happening though, the confetti pieces after few seconds form a clog where the box connects with the tube. If I push that clog with my hand, the confetti is sucked in and flows through the tubes and is blown just fine. I modified my box from the inside like so, but it didn't change anything. -> Someone unlike me who actually understands why that is happening, can you explain why clog happens and how would you suggest me to modify my box shape to fix this? Not that the hose setup is bad, it just looks like a modified vacuum cleaner like that and not very pretty to have in ceremonies and we still need a box to put the confetti pieces and the hose in to suck the confetti so I thought I could just have the box on the machine itself and make it easier to handle.

Periodic table closet

Hi, I'm 22 years old and I am in my master studies of chemistry. I thought would be a good time to start a collection of elements. I also want to display them properly. like in some sort of closet that you can hang to the wall. It is hard to type down where I am thinking of. The added image below is something like what I want (but in this picture they apparently forgot the Lanthanides and Actinides). How would you tackle to make something like that? I think wood is a good choice for material here (but please correct me if I'm wrong). I have a limited amount of experience of working with wood, but I figure the horizontal and vertical walls should slide into each other to make the grid. But I cannot figure out how to attach the grid to a sturdy back plate, or how to have smooth outside edges without wood sticking out to form the grid. I hope my explanations are some what clear. my explanation cortex seems not to be fully up to speed today. thank you in advance for you advice.

VAWT a new way to wind generation

Guys need help to realise its feasiblity and pros & cons. This project will comprise of a renewable energy source which is controlled by TI msp430 controller by closed loop system. This renewable energy source will use a magnetically levitated vertical axis wind turbine with single phase permanent magnet alternator made by our team. There will be 3 stationary wind guide vanes/flaps of concave shape on the outer periphery of turbine. These vanes will be controlled by dc gear motor for constant wind flow and protection against high speed winds. Using perturb & observe MPPT algorithm on DC-DC boost converter, constant DC voltage for GRID integration is made. A lower energy Bluetooth module will send data on user computer about whole system parameter, hence making the whole system to be smart and hence data is saved in database.

FSR - Conductive foam readings

Hello! I am making a prototype of a force sensitive resistor, and i am using, to old 97%kobber coins, metal sheet and a tiny piece of conductive foam that i got from a tv-repair shop. The setup is not very good, but its a start, and i am planning the next move for better results... Now... I want some decent understanding of how the readings work, and why I get these results.. First test, are written with black, and and as you can see it, has the same amount of space between 0-1kg and 1-2kg, but 2-3 and 3-4 changes to a very small space? Why is that? Second question is, that i have used the x10, to read larger forces. 0-2,5kg and 2,5-5kg has same amount of space. Will the space decrease too, when getting further up the scale too?  - I know the conductive foam has its limits too, but just to be clear of my readings. Thanks in advance! I hope you can see the readings on the picture..!

Is Alumisol Soft Plastic food safe?

I'm looking to cast a fake monster tongue out of Alumisol Soft Plastic (Plastisol) for a costume. Obviously it will end up going in my mouth. I can't find any information anywhere about the food-safety of the solid compound. What I gather from the msds sheet is that it's non-toxic, but it's a little ambiguous. The retailer I asked couldn't find any information either. From what I can tell it's usually used to create soft rubber fishing lures, so I'd assume it's environmentally friendly with respect to not releasing toxins into the water, and its listed uses include special effects as well as medical reproductions (Of tissue). Has anyone used this type of plastisol in contact with food or the surface of your mouth before? All help is appreciated.

Grow a plant in my locker?

Currently, this is an idea, and i am simply expanding on it. I had this great idea, mostly as a joke, why not grow a plant in a spare locker? I am currently a high school student that goes to a small school, and have way too much time on my hands. As i was looking at the empty lockers we have from students who left, or even just spares, an idea hit me. Why not put one of these lockers to good use? Why not put a plant inside of it, that can sustain most if not all of itself? Have a gallon of water in there, along with an arduino and a moisture sensor, that would end up watering the plant. I would also have an artificial light source to provide light, preferably LED. The hardest bit is the power. All of this would run off of either a SLA battery or two, or maybe a drill battery. I could swap the battery once every day, which means it would need to go for 24 hours without stopping. That, and the weekends, which would be three full days. I first thought about mushrooms, or other dark growing plants, but i find that boring, lacking a challenge. besides doing this just for jokes, i have also wanted to try out the idea of growing a plant fully indoors without the use of natural sunlight. I have never done this, so please feel free to bombard me with recommendations. Again, this is only an idea. I can only assume it's possible. Also, recommendations on parts and methods would be sweet. Some type of light that can be powered on 12-24v, and run off of a SLA or maybe even a lawnmower battery for minimum of 3 days. Also, plant. I was thinking a tomato plant? Some species that doesn't grow taller than 2.5ft? Anyway, that's the idea. If you guys could help with ideas, provide recommendations, or point me in the correct direction, that'd be sweet. Last note, i would like to keep this cheap. I am not going for some extreme garden or anything. Just a single plant, in a semi-self sustaining locker.

Using a fan to drive another fan

Hi all, This may very well be a stupid question but after a quick bit of searching I cannot find an answer (which probably means it is stupid). I have been thinking about setting up a wind turbine to generate some electricity for my home. It occurred to my that it would be good if the wind turbine did not rely solely on the wind from outside so I started thinking about using another fan to blow air into the fan or fan used to create the electricity. Does anyone know if this is possible? I guess what would be ideal is if fan A was powered by the electricity produced by fan B but fan B also produced a little extra electricity that I could syphon off. This could then easily scale up to produce more power. [ fan A ] ~~~~~> [ fan B ] ~~~~~> electricity I suppose if fan A takes more energy to run than fan B can create then it won't work. Has anyone looked into this?
