Bet you can't think of something new to do with TINE!

Hi Everyone!  We want to come up some really creative ways to use TINE, and we thought that instructables community might be a good place to get some help.  TINE is is what you would get if you combined a post it note with YouTube. We've created these little stickers called TINE tags that you can stick on anything and then use the TINE app to record a video or audio message onto the sticker. When someone scans your sticker, they'll see your message and you'll get notified. You can learn more at tinetag.com. It's totally free and our goal was to create something new and different that people could use in a lot of creative ways.  We would love to hear how you would use TINE. We recently created a DIY on how to use TINE to make any book a recoradable audio book, but we know there are tons of other ideas out there.   Let us know if you have an amazing idea for TINE and we will make a DIY for it.  Thanks,  Vik from TINE

Is oogoo (DIY Silicone Putty) Oven-safe?

Hello! I have a question for people who use oogoo, or generally DIY silicone molding putty made from 100% silicone caulk. I want to cast oogoo molds of lego bionicle masks with polymer clay, but my issue is I need to keep the clay inside the mold in order to prevent any kind of warping, as most of it is spread a little thin (1-2mm thickness) and I don't want to end up warping it even in the slightest. Is oogoo or cured 100% silicone caulk oven-safe as long as it's within the specified temperature range? (I already know most DIY silicone putties aren't food-grade.) The silicone caulk I'm using is GE all purpose silicone I, mixed with corn starch, acrylic paint, and baby oil. The back of the tube says that it should not be used on surfaces that will exceed 400F/205C. The polymer clay I plan on using is cured at 110C, so I don't think it'll be a problem, but I'm worried exposing the silicone caulk mold to high temperatures will cause it to release some harmful chemical compounds. I looked up an MSDS sheet for GE silicone, and they had a generalized one stating exceeding the maximum temperature will cause the release of formaldehyde. Since I plan on baking these in our kitchen oven, I wouldn't want harmful chemicals contaminating a space where we cook our food. Also, if baking isn't an option, since the polymer clay is spread thin, and cures close to 100C, would curing it in boiling water be an option? (That way any water soluble chemicals would remain contained while the clay hardens.) All help is appreciated!

Build Night at the Banjarapalya Makerspace with Chibitronics

Greetings from the Banjaraplaya Makerspace! We are a small makerspace located in the outskirts of Bangalore (India), in the village of Banjarapalya - https://goo.gl/maps/qz0BX . The space serves as a building as well as an alternative learning space where the local villagers can come and develop various skills in a very self-customised manner. Our participants generally belong to the under-served sections of society and have very limited exposure to technology. We help them develop skills in technology and to get into the habit of making while finding great projects online and using the low-cost equipment available at the space. The build night was a great experience. Almost everyone at the center got involved with the stickers and made greeting cards, wall designs etc. Also, this has helped us to get into the habit of writing more instructables. I feel build nights create great interest very quickly and also give a breather from the regular project work.  We are looking forward to hosting more build nights at our space. Go Green!

Just kidding!  Thanks for having me in your group.  It´s been awhile since I have been back to AA but it will always be one of my homes.  Please take time to check out my instructable for Agave Wood Personal Theater.  Hopefully, later today it will be approved for the Wood Contest (still waiting). If any of you visited the UM botanical garden this past summer you may remember their agave americana was in bloom after 80 YEARS of growth and waiting.  Here´s a link http://www.mlive.com/news/ann-arbor/index.ssf/2014/07/u-m_botanical_gardens_80-year-_1.html . My project was made using the same variety of agave and with the flower stalk and thorns.  In addition, I used nopal cactus (prickly pear) and a homemade wax to finish it.  Thats´s it.  It is 100% natural and vegan.  I know these words can make some squimish but for real when was the last time you could say that about technology? Please visit my project and feel free to comment:  I would love to find collaborators to work with from your organization when I visit AA in the summer. GO GREEN!  GO BLUE!

ceiling fan wind turbine

I am in the middle of building a ceiling fan generator/wind turbine.  I know that the electric current produced is AC (I think it's 3 phase...it has 3 wires coming out of the fan). I do not know electricity that well, and am learning as I go... I would like to use the wind turbine to drive a small garden water fountain pump that is 120 volts.  What do I need electrically to complete building this wind turbine? Does anybody have any suggestions on resources on how to connect such a device electrically?  (Do i need a diode, rectifier, ???)  Does the voltage produced by spinning the generator have to equal the volts required by the device ( small water pump)?  Thank you for any and all help as I'm trying to learn and hopefully complete this wind turbine by summer.

Waterproofing a leather hat?

My day-to-day hat is a leather fedora. Most of the time, it's great, but it does leak through the crown if I'm out in heavy rain for more than, say, 30-45 minutes. This isn't normally a huge problem, since I'm not often out in heavy rain that long that often, but it is a problem on a wet camp, when I'm outdoors all day. Unfortunately, I can't polish it, as the finish is matt, borderline suede. Any ideas, folks?

Heating box

Hi everybody First of all I want to excuse myself if my english is not perfect. I have a project in mind for a while. I work on construction in Canada and using caulking everyday it get hard to use it during winter if we don't have access to put them inside. So I wanted to build a little box with an heating system that could work on a jobsite generator. I'm thinking about a plywood box nothing fancy as long it work. I though about place 10 ABS/PVC tube that fit perfectly the caulking tube with alots of hole in it so the heat can pass throught it. So the caulking tube can be reached right from the top of the box and due to the hole it won't overheat. So that's the idea so far. What heating system should I use for this system(I don't want to spend alot on money). Maybe I'm thinking about  1 or 2 computer fan to make the heat uniform. I'm thinking about a space where I can put my spare glove to get them dry do you have an idea for that ? And finaly I'm open to any suggestion that can get the box even better ! :) Thanks you

Question: How to use old gym floor wood

Does anyone know an effective way of removing the plastic coating on gym floor wood.  I have managed to remove the plastic once, using a belt sander and many, many, unfortunate, coarse sand belts. Also occasionally using a chisel. This did work well, just very time consuming. The result was a very nice, strong wood. I would be very interested in any information on this.

Portable Work Space

Hello,  I have been kicking around this design for a portable work bench. My profession is product design however I am a DIYer by nature (mostly wood working, furniture and the occasional home renovation). I would always loose count of the number of trips I would make back and forth to my shop in the garage.I thought that a portable table that could fold into a hand truck would be a good solution to design, build and possibly sell. I have teamed up with a metal worker in the PA and we are considering crafting a few of these tables however I would like to ask the community if an idea like this was worth anything. If you are at all interested in something like this, could you please take this very short "yes/no" survey so that I could tally and see if there is enough interest in this idea. Also, could you please let me know what you think of this idea? If enough people think this is worth the time I will build a  few tables and post pics.  Survey Link: https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/RX63VFQ Thanks, -S

Creating a temporary EMP device

I'm new in this site. Anyhow, I want to create a EMP that can temporary disable electronic devices. I read some articles that producing one can  permanently destroy any electronic devices when activated.  I don't know if its real in the Dark Knight Rises where Bruce used a device to disable the cameras or even the lights and vehicles in the tunnel but I want one. The purpose of its creation is for killing some time and having experience in making one. Technically, I found a way to make a step by step temporary EMP however it does not show much like how much power produce or some voltage adjuster when you want to increase or decrease its potential.  In such case, if i happened to make one, how can I determine the radius of its effects? Does the voltage produce counts to determine its radius?

Baby clothes quilt

I am about to endeavor to start making a quilt out of my children's baby clothes which are made of various fabrics, some of which are t-shirt fabric.  I have never made a quilt before and really have no clue.  I'm not thinking it will be perfect.  I'm thinking of making 5 x 5 inch pieces.  First question:  do you think 5x5 or 6x6 pieces are a good size?  Second question:  for the t-shirt material, do I cut the square first and THEN fuse it to make it more stable?  Or do I fuse first then cut into a square?  I know I need to put 1/2 inch on all sides for seams?  But still my main question is: cut then fuse, or fuse then cut?  And really, it only needs to be nice enough so that I can gaze at it when I am older and it is covering my old painful knees and reminisce about my children when they were young.  Thank you.

Stencils for a keyboard

Hey all. Does anyone know of anywhere to get a good stencil for a keyboard? I have searched google and only find the sticker ones which won't work for the project I am working on. I have tried to cut out some with an exacto but it has not been very effective for that size of letters and is a rather daunting task on an already HUGE time sink of a project (over 100 man hours in already). I have been to a large local Micheals and the stencils they have are all to large for the keys. I tried hand painting them but this is being painted onto glass AND it is spherical to boot AND the paint I have for the glass is not very consistant and streaks unevenly on the stroke often especially when doing curved letters so that is out. The only thing I think would work is a decent vinyl stencil (or some other material which will flex to the curvature and adhere to the glass). If anyone knows of a place to get this or some technique that I have yet not thought of I would absolutely LOVE to hear it. Thanks.

What kind of leather projects are you interested in seeing Instructables for?

I am new to this site, but I have been working with leather for a little while and I have over 200 projects done. I have also done work with metal fabrication (custom BBQ pits), foam sculpting, engraving, sand blasting, stained glass, and whatever else I can get my hands on. I am by no means an expert, but I am better at some things than I am at others. Is there anything in particular you would like to see instructions for or do you just want me to shoot from the hip?
