I have what I believe is a large Indian Mantis. I fould it on our deck and have kept it for about 3 weeks so far. It molted a week ago and for the first time I saw wings. The covering of the wings is a little shredded, but look ok. Starting yesterday it started looking very lethargic and was hanging by 1 leg from the top screen of it's cage where it hasn't left in 3 weeks except when it molted. It looks like it is dying and not showing any signs of strength or interest in food. What can I do, if anything? Temps here in New England are in the 30's at night and I don't think it would stand a chance if I let it go or I would. PLEASE ADVISE ASAP. THANKS!
Hello everyone some time ago I started some research about greywater reuse because I understood that it can be very helpful for everybody after some research Icame up with a concept wich is like this:1-the water enters a container after going through a filter wich gets larg particles2-it goes through a ceramic filter for smaller particle for smaller particles 3-A RO filter gets the chemicals and super-small-particles4-A container with a UV lamp wich kills the bacteria But there are some problems1-I cant be sure about the water quality2-I am concerned about the chemicals in detergents

I'm planning on making a ring out of a coin. I'll use Euro coins. 1, 2 e 5 Eurocent coins are made of copper covered steel and are too small, so I think they won't be a good choice. 1 and 2 Euro coins are the right size, but it seems that they are made of alloys containing nickel, that may cause allergy. So I think I'll use a 50 Eurocent coin, that is made of Nordic Gold, an alloy (89% copper, 5% aluminium, 5% zinc, and 1% tin). Has anyone ever made a ring out of Nordic Gold? Did it cause allergy or stain your finger? Did it tarnish? Is it malleable? Thanks

Recently, I bought an old train tail light. What is the best way to remove the soot marks and how could I repurpose it? So what could I put in the lamp instead of a light source? My ideas were plants, an art object made of clay or something electronic, such as a custom-made Bluetooth speaker. Which ideas do you have?

I was wondering if anyone knew of a state or town in the US where I could buy a small, cheap piece of land and legally live in a tent or a yurt full-time? I really didnt even know where to begin looking for advice on this....So Im hoping some awesome person on this website will have ideas. These are the things I am more specifically looking for: I would like to move to an area that doesn't get much (if any) snow. I would like to buy no more then about 5 acres in the woods somewhere, and do NOT need utilities or buildings, and I would be fine living on logged land and possibly "problem land". The land would have to have access by road...And preferably no further then 30-40 minutes from a town. Oh, and I won't live in Florida. If anyone has any ideas or suggestions, please let me know! Thank you!! Ryan

I need you help smart people of Instructables!I need to make a small Electromagnet, that uses minimum power (by that I mean the battery), but still has to be very powerful. I have a couple of questions that I need you to help me answer:Does the number of coils that is wound to the metal bar effect the strenght of the electromagnet?Does the wire gauge (20,24,28,30,34,36 wire gauge) make a difference is the strenght of the magnet?Does the voltage I supply to the coil effect the Electromagnet? What type of battery is best for an Electromagnet (AA, AAA, C, D), and what voltage (1,5V, 3V, 4,5V, 6V, 9V) ???Here is the thing, I need to make the Electromagnet super strong but taking up the minimum of energy, for example, just 1,5V. The things that are not important to me (doesn't play a factor in my device) is the number of wire winds to the metal rod and the wire gauge! So is it better to just make 1 or more (3,4,5,6...) layers of wire winds???Is it better to use thinner (36 gauge) or thicker wire (24 gauge)???Thank you a lot!Stanislav

Aloha, I am working on recycled PET plastic for art projects. I have read everything that I can find on melting clear PET and reforming it. My issue is it keeping it clear or at least translucent for the art projects. I cut clear water bottles into small pieces and place on a cookie sheet and place in 500F degree oven. In about 3 mins it is liquid, still clear, and in the shape of the round pizza pan it is in. Almost immediately after I pull it out it begins to cool and turn white and opaque. So, my question is, is there something I can do to keep it clear? Is there possibly a cooling process to do this? Maybe slowly drop the temperature? Any help or tips will be greatly appreciated. Aloha, Tim

I took our Genie garage door opener apart [the light wasn't working and I read where that was probably caused by the 555 timer] and thought I'd carefully drawn a schematic before doing so, but I failed to label where the 3 wires from the receiver connect to the terminal block on the main unit, and also where the 3 wires from the main unit connect to the terminal block. Regardless, I have the unit back together and when the remote is pressed the receiver relay clicks, but that's the only thing that happens. I'm fairly certain the problem lies with a component on the internal motor controller board. And NO ONE gives out this kind of information. I can't even find it for sale !! But I'll be derned if I'm going to pay $50 for a new controller board when I'm almost 100% certain the problem is a $.59 diode or the like. Plus, I like a challenge and hate getting beat. Any and all help would be very much appreciated. Possibly I could find someone who has the same model unit and they could diagram theirs for me, possibly someone knows where to obtain the real thing. Thanks !!

CLEAR FILM that is archival, pigment inkjet compatible, and in of itself can be a final product? Is there such a thing?
Problem: I've been calling art stores as well as photography stores, paper stores, film manufacturers, printer companies -- nobody seems to know if there is such a thing as printing onto clear plastic film as a final product. Everyone says their products are meant for transferring or negatives etc. (I tried printing on non-coated Mylar D, and the ink just beads off.) goal: What I have been creating are art pieces on clear transfer film and selling them. I print on them, I paint on them, I apply reflective & dichroic materials on them, and layer them on top of each other; I manipulate the art pieces in every interesting way I possibly can. My collectors and potential clients want to be assured that my pieces will have a long lasting quality to them. I want to be able to give all of the correct information rather than "I don't know". my materials: I use a canon ipf8400 with archival fine art pigment inks. I just need a clear film that is also archival. Or something as close as possible to being the most durable, long lasting material available that is inkjet compatible. There has to be something out there? Or at least a protective clear spray or finish? I can't be the only one interested in creating artwork with transparent qualities? I have been using transfer film, 4ml thick. Does anyone have any tips at all to help me think in the right direction? question: Is there such a thing as a Clear Film that is archival, pigment inkjet compatible, and in of itself can be a final product? Or what is the closest I can possibly get to that?

I'm planning to make a satchel bag out of duct tape and i've pretty much figured out the mechanics on how to make it. however, for my initial plan to work out, i'm gonna need a sheet of SOMETHING that duct tape doesn't stick to, or at least, doesn't stick to as well. i'm planning to lay on the strips of duct tape on THAT and then move on from there. so, any ideas? wax paper (like the yellow stuff used as backing for stickers)? paper rubbed with oil? a certain type of cloth? WET cloth (haha)? a certain type of plastic? thanks in advance!

I have come across instructables that I wanted to combine: the homemade solar cell using household materials which can be found here, the LED jewelry that can also be found here, and lastly, doing the diffuser procedure which is actually just adding the essential oil on the boiling water. it's like making a ministeam boiler but worn as accessory. I need help with this? Thanks! I think it would involve calculating volts converting the equivalent solar cell measurements to the most smaller measurements as possible. And also how long would the solar cell can be able to sustain and how many volts do I need to reach boiling point? Thanks! I will be updating as soon as I can gather and connect these things. Accdg. To my research, to water to reach boiling point, a 1kg water = 1,200 joules/min. Or 1,600 watts. I wanna know how many watts or volts in order to boil a 1ml water?

I am having issues with my cats meowing all night. They are definitely indoor cats, and won't even go out a wide open door. I have made them a spare bedroom up with all their needs and toys. When I used to let them run the house at night, my female would keep me up all night jumping on the bed and me. I tried closing the door to keep her out, and she just cried all night and clawed at the bottom of the door. I made up the room and put them to bed at night, and she screams and keeps the neighbors and me up. I have not had a decent sleep in too long! Worse, she has taught the other cat to scream all night, and the neighbors are complaining. I have tried to stop spoiling her so much, and I think she has separation anxiety. I am gone at work all day, and my husband even longer. I do play with her in the evenings, but it never seems to be enough. If I have to get rid of them both, it's unfair to the calmer cat, and then most shelters will put them to sleep, besides the stress they will go through first! I am out of options and nearly out of time... Please advise!

Hi, I have an old diffuser reed bottle which I think could be useful for a future project as it is a colour that would go well with the theme of my room - but it also has the candle company name and rather too much print on the glass. Is there some way that I can remove part of the design without damaging the glass or causing too many scratches, it would be a shame to throw it out (we cannot buy refills over here so there's not much else I can do with it). Thanks. : )

I bought this really interesting succulent(?) from a door-to-door plant salesman a week ago. The pot is 5", so that gives you a size reference. This strange-growing plant appears to have thorns, but the spikey protrusions are not hard or ouchie-sharp. Does anyone know what species it is?

A little box keeps popping up saying "Hey DCA, you still need to verify your account". I do as it says and a box pops up with an old but still active email address, I send it but it never shows in my mailbox. Nothing wrong with the address, I still get other mails. What's up? Also, I don't see anyplace to ask a question of the Instructable staff. Thanks, Dave

I'm trying to make a sculpture by soldering copper/brass rods together, but when I try to make one joint, it melts all the surrounding joints. I tried putting on some heatsink tweezers but they weren't effective. It's going to be quite complex, so clamping the whole thing and soldering all the joints at once won't be practical. Any tips for making a better heatsink? Should I just solder faster? At the moment I'm letting the metal get really really hot because I guessed it would make a better joint, but maybe I'm overdoing it?

With present gas/pollution concerns and green tech merging with cars left and right... Why hasn't the steam engine been reborn? I mean what takes MORE power, Electricity to move a 1000lb car or heat up a heating element to heat water and make steam? With tanks strong enough to hold Hydrogen for cars why cant the same tech be used for a steam engine? All the fuel you would need would be water (solar panels/batteries to power heating) but just water for fuel. Thoughts?
