i have an idea for a lighter make a simple circuit with a battery and a light bulb and wire, the hit the bulb with a hammer and remove the glass the point is to get to the wire that creates the light. don't do this while the bulb is on. complete the circuit and light some paper or something. i haven't tried it yet.

The lack of vacuum means the filament will burn quickly.  Better is simply using a 9v going through some graphite lead, which will become extremely hot and bright, and can be thick enough not to burn out after one use, like a lightbulb would.
(downside: you can't shank anyone with graphite [pencil] lead, but you can with a jagged lightbub)

best still is a glow plug for a nitro engine. u get them at hobby stores for a couple of bucks. 1.5v or any alkaline battery (ie AA, AAA(not enough amps in my opinion. a single AA alone isn't enough in my opinion. 2 AA wired in parallel gives you 1.5 volts, but lasts twice as long.) C and D batteries work great. i would suggest picking you up a kiwistart rechargeable glow igniter. thew get red hot with 1.5 volts and don't burn out because of exposure to air. (incandescents now, depending on the brand and size of the bulb have started using argon inside of the bulb instead of having a vacuum. not all brands do this though. all you have to do is get rid of the air.)

one other thing, though, that i am surprised u didn't think of is steel wool and a 9v battery. u don't even need something to ignite, like a match. the steel wool itself burns.

TBH I though he meant the cool one that you can make using stuff like a shotgun cartridge, the guy from the book " A farewell to arms" had one.
