Introduction: How to Make a Workbench
here is my take on the humble workbench.
i made it using 90x35 timber and 12mm plywood doubled up for the bench top.
this is my very first instructable so please be nice :)
the tools i used:
cordless drill.
hand saw.
tape measure.
pencil.
square.
drill bit to pre drill.
two C clamps.
file.
glue.
spirit level.
think thats it!
to make the design i started from the top down.
i worked out what size top i wanted (1200x600) and then worked out what size overlap of the top i wanted (50mm) and that told me the size i needed the base to be.
to start i marked out and cut all timber then i joined extra bits of timber to the legs for added strength and left space to join the legs together.
i used glue and then put two 57mm screws into the bottom added piece and four screws to the top piece.
then i screwed the two 1030mm pieces to the top and bottom to complete the legs.
once both legs where completed then i attached the four side pieces.
the base is now finished!
now i measured my bottom shelf (cut out around the leg) and then screwed it down.
now screw the first piece of plywood to the top. when i did this i spaced the screws out a bit so i would have room to screw the last pieces of ply down.
when i screwed the last piece of ply i used two clamps to make sure the two bench tops stayed aligned.
pretty much done now.
all i did now was break the edge of the bench top with a file so it wasn't so sharp, screw a length of 90x35 to the back to stop anything from falling down the back (i used three small brackets to do this) and attach a 6 point power board to the back left leg.
THATS IT
this was great for me because its the perfect size for the small space i have and it was great fun to make.
not including buying the timber this took just under 4 hours to make.
