Introduction: How to Make Emergency Candles

About: Projects Forever!

If you are ever in a blackout or dont have candles this is a simple way to

make candles.

Step 1: What You Need

cotton ball

spoon

potato

butter

knife

lighter or matches

Step 2: Cutting the Potato

first cut the potato in half then cut the ends of so it

will be able to stand.

Step 3: Making a Hole

take the spoon and scoop out the inside but without ripping the skin

Step 4: The Wick

roll out the cotton ball and then take a small amount

and roll into small wicks

Step 5: Fuel

the butter will act like oil. take the butter and place into potato then put the wicks

in. Light and enjoy!

    There is no attachment necessary - the wick simply lays on the side of the potato.

    Anything with a high fatty/waxy content will burn with a wick, plus the wicks can be made out of a variety of different materials as well.
    For centuries rendered animal fat was used to make lamp oil.
    This is a great little instructable to get into the hobby of natural/sustainable lamps.

    Nice, could come in handy in a pinch. have you tried other fuel sources, like lard or crisco?

    Bee wax, crayons, the red stuff covering Dutch Cheese, cooking oil, butter... Sky's the limit with candles. :)

    in india it is called DIYA which is made up of clay , mustard oil is used as fuel

    Ah, but the starting conditions stated no candles and I'm sure no specific candle components, but yes, very good. Going to need to remember that one.

    Very god! For a wick you could also use bday candle wicks.
