Introduction: How to Make Vegetable Dyes
Step 1: THINGS YOU WILL NEED :
• News paper/scrap paper
• Food grater
• Carrots
• 1 bowl
• 1 plastic bags
• Scissors
• 2 plastic cups
• White cotton fabric
Step 2:
Cover the work area with newspaper.
Use the food grater to grate 1/4 cup of the carrot.
Step 3:
Place the grated vegetable into a plastic bag.
Step 4:
Add 2/4 cup warm water.
Step 5:
Seal the bag tightly.
Step 6:
Carefully knead the sealed bag on the work station for approximately 2 minutes.
The water in the bag starts to color.
Step 7:
Use the scissors to make a small cut in the corner of the bag.
Pour the colored water into a cup. Discard the grated vegetables remaining in the bag.
Step 8:
Place the strip of the cotton fabric into the cup containing the dye.
Allow the strip to soak overnight.
Step 9:
Remove the fabric strip from the dye. Allow to dry.
Fill a clean cup with warm water. add the fabric strip to the cup.
Allow them to soak for 2 minutes. Some of the dye will begin to fade. Remove when the fabric reaches desired color.
Suggestions: Vegetables like Beet root and red cabbage can also be used as dyes.
