Intro: How to Start a Campfire

how to start a campfire with matches the way the boy scouts do it

STEP 1: You Will Need

you will need
dry branches/sticks
a clear area
matches
string (optional)

STEP 2: First Step

clear an area of anything flammable i did mine by the shed in \the back of my house but you could be in the wilderness

STEP 3: Next

next make a teppe shape with your dry branches i tied mine together with the string i had then ai added a pile of dry leaves and other rubble underneath the tepee.

STEP 4: Last Step

take the matches and light 2 together then light the rubble and wait until the tepee catches then you have your campfire

For lighting the fire in a kanara thing we have at home, I prefer to have two large logs or other large bits of wood side by side with about a 8 in gap in between them. I then place kindling on top of them, bridging the gap. Finally i put scrunched up newspaper below the kindling and light it. When the kindling catches i just move the logs because often they are burning as well.

Get a long piece of toilet paper, tie it on the end of a stick, dunk it in lighter fluid. LIGHT IT, TADA!!

It helps a lot to start small, make a mini pyramid and just start building it bigger and bigger until you can throw decent sized log onto the fire. You can use tree sap to keep it lit in the early stages, just smear it on a stick, it burns a long time once its lit.

come to troop 70, my scout troop, if we light a fire within 45 minutes thats fast for some of us (I cheat and use lighter fluid, or I siphon gas out of some peoples cars and use that (I dont know how you lost a half of a tank of gas))

You also need to have a ready supply of pre-gathered fuel, because what you've got there (which is basically kindling) will burn away quite merrily, but only for a couple of minutes. To get a good big fire going, the thing you have in the last picture should be built inside a "log cabin pyramid" structure, which will catch and burn much longer, and give you time to gather larger logs and give enough heat to light them.
