Intro: How to Tell If Bread Is Fresh Before You Buy It

have you ever wondered why bread tags are different colors?
in this instructable i will show you how to tell if bread is fresh or if it's from a week ago, just by look at the color of the tags.

STEP 1: How to Tell

Bread is delivered to grocery stores every day of the week excluding Sunday and Wednesday. And every day the twist tie or tab is a different color. The color of the bread tabs go alphabetically for each day of the week.
Monday: Blue
Tuesday: Green
Thursday: Red
Friday: White
Saturday: Yellow
So when bread is on your list make sure you get the color of the day for guaranteed freshness.

Thanks So Much!  I Used to remember this tip, but when I remembered it, I couldn't remember which day equaled what color!!!
Mad. In the UK we have a best before date printed on the loaf. The freshest is the one with the longest date.
These are the essentials of living life.
It it also noteworthy to remember that the colors are in alphabetical order. You just think alphabetical if you can't remember what color goes with what day. Don't forget there is no Wednesday or Sunday!
I used to think this was true as well, however I found out from my bread distributer that it is only true sometimes. Although a lot of different bakeries do use the alphabetical listing as above for color order, some use the Roy G Biv method and put the colors in the order they would come in the spectrum and then others just assign colors for each day of the week and that is their code. So where red comes on Friday at one company it comes on Monday at another. So just because some use this method does not mean it works every time.
*blink* Seriously? *googles* Sure enough! Ugh, I think I just developed a new OCD habit.
