One suggestion for your fruit picker is either a plastic cup (to catch the fruit) under the hook, or possibly a small net. I think you would also want to glue the elbow joint on - maybe using hot-glue. (?)

I love these hacks. Not sure if this is one of them, but I used 4" PVC to make a marker for my driveway, which is hard to see at night. Got some reflective tape to put around it, and it works great. I filled the pipe with ready mix concrete to give it some body. There's lots of tree roots where I placed it, so I couldn't go very deep, but I straighten it out each spring, after the snow, and it works just fine. (Tried to upload a picture, but it didn't seem to work.)

Thanks, between PVC and Duct Tape.......WTF did we do before they came around? I've built collapsible reflectors, Soft boxes and stands to name a few things in my photography business for 30 years.
