Moreover, for parents, this recipe can come in handy when your children ask for a sweet dessert, and this recipe can also be useful when you want to control how much you eat because it is perfect for one serving!

I had learned this recipe from a close friend, and I have been making this dessert since high school. Most of the ingredients can be found in your house, and this recipe can be useful in many ways. Now, go grab a small cup and be prepared to make the easiest and tastiest dessert in 10-m inutes!

Step 1: Ingredients / Supplies

Ingredients:

  • 1/4 cup of all-purpose flour
  • 2-3 tablespoons of unsweetened cocoa powder
  • Half of Hershey's Milk Chocolate Bar
  • 1/4 teaspoon of salt
  • 1 Egg
  • 2-3 tablespoons of sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon of baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
  • Strawberry frosting

Supplies:

  • 14 or 16 oz microwave safe Mug
  • Plate
  • Microwave
  • Measuring cups/spoons
  • One medium bowl
  • One small bowl
  • Fork
  • Spoon

Step 2: Whisk the Egg!

First, grab your small bowl and crack in your egg. To whisk the egg, you can use a metal whisk, but if you don't have a whisk in your house, using a fork is completely fine!

Step 3: Melting the Chocolate

After you whisk your egg, leave that small bowl to the side. To make the cake taste sweeter and flavorful, you are going to melt half of your Hershey's Milk Chocolate Bar in your medium bowl. You can use other brands for the chocolate bar, but remember to put in less than 1 ounce of the chocolate bar!

Break half of your chocolate bar into small pieces and put this in your medium bowl. Then, put this medium bowl into the microwave, and microwave for 1 minute.

Step 4: Mixing the Ingredients

After microwaving 1 minute of your chocolate bar, let the bowl cool for 1 or 2 minutes. Then, put in 2-3 tablespoons of unsweetened cocoa powder, 1/4 teaspoon of salt, 1/4 cup of all-purpose flour, 1/2 teaspoon of baking powder. and 2-3 tablespoons of sugar. Usually, I put in 3 tablespoons of sugar and unsweetened cocoa powder to make the cake bold and sweeter.

Next, grab your whisked egg and put only four tablespoons of the egg into the medium bowl. Put in 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract and mix thoroughly with your spoon until the mixture clumps together. Lastly, transfer this mixture into your 14 oz or 16 oz mug.

Step 5: Microwave!

Before placing your mug into the microwave, you can place the mug on top of a paper towel in case your mug cake spills. I prefer to use a 16 oz mug because there is a possibility that the mug cake will spill. For this mug cake, I used a microwave with 1050W for 2 minutes and 5 seconds.

Depending on the power of your microwave, you will have to adjust the timer. For instance, if your microwave is 800W, microwave for around 2 minute 40seconds, and check if the cake is done in the middle by poking the middle of the cake with a toothpick or a spoon. If it is not done, microwave for an additional 10 seconds and check again. Repeat until the cake is fully done in the middle. Use the power of my microwave and time as a baseline if your microwave is different. Do not overestimate the time for your microwave! Always start low and add additional time until the cake is fully done!

Also, do not panic if the cake puffs up and rises toward the top of the mug! I used a 16 oz mug for this mug cake, so I did not experience the cake puff up, but previously, this happened to me when I used a 14 oz mug. It looked like the cake will fall out, but it came back down after the timer stopped.

Step 6: Customize Your Cake!

After you check that your cake is fully done, let the mug cool down for 2 or 3 minutes because it will be hot! It is completely fine to start eating your cake, but if you want your cake to have a unique taste, first, remove your cake from the mug and put it on a plate.

Then, split your cake in half, grab your strawberry frosting, spread it throughout the middle portion of your cake, and place the other half back on top. You can also add powdered sugar, glaze, or even fruit on your cake for a better experience.

Step 7: Enjoy!

Although this cake will not be the prettiest cake, it will be one of the tastiest cake you ever tried in 10 minutes! It is a perfect recipe to use when you do not feel like going out and want to eat a quick, sweet dessert. It is not a difficult process, but it can be tricky when trying to find the right time for your microwave. Enjoy!
