About: i am an artist and musician. i make things of use out of things that no longer have use. i think the hip term is "upcycling." i post a lot of inspirational and entertainment videos on youtube.com/timsway. oc...

i wanted a small, simple lumber rack that i could easily install and uninstall on my 72 chevy pickup. this cost $35 for 4, 8-foot 1 3/8" steel square tube (and a couple scraps of flat steel). i put some info in the video on cuts and such, but you'll need to measure your truck and may have to adjust.

the kicker is that the following week my local discount tool store - for the first time ever! - had a truck rack in stock for $98 that would've worked perfect for me. but mine looks more appropriate for my truck, and since i made it myself i have that feeling of pride that all DIYers know about ;-)

cheers,
tim

    thanks man,

i wanted the rack to have the same homemade, "ratrod" look as my truck. i almost didn't paint them to let them rust up a bit first like my homemade grille. lucky for me i did a crappy job painting them and they're rusting a little anyways ;-)
