Introduction: 3D Print 'Wheel Tyre Tread Style' Ring (Size S)

About: I studied Maths and Computing, worked in an Operation Research department, retrained as a civil engineer, worked on site for some major projects. I'm learning to be a structural engineer at the moment! I've al…

I saw a couple of these made out of metal (either cast or drilled), but they were very expensive. I thought I could make my own version, so I decided to model one myself that could be printed....

Ideal for anyone who is car, van, bicycle or motorbike mad!!

I went for a typical car tyre tread style, and a typical motorbike style tread but you could go make one yourself that looks like a premium car tyre with curves and tapers, or you could go for a more minimal motorbike style - just google "tyre tread images" for inspiration!

Date Made: September 2013
Approx Cost: (Cost of printing?)
Approx Time: 1.5 hours modelling (plus printing time)
Difficulty: Easy/Medium

Step 1: The Model

I have built a 3d model...

This was done using tinkercad and can be found on their website by searching for "Wheel Ring" or here:

Step 2: Optimisation

I do not have access to a 3d printer so cannot test the print.

Obviously this can be tailored to suit your size, or you might like to change the tread design.

There are plenty of different tyre designs out there, so play with the size to fit and play with the design to one that you like!
