Introduction: 5 Minutes Router Plane

Hi,

I was working on a project and needed a router plane. After seeing some video, I decided to make a router plane like the one on this paul sellers' video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B_2a_FwjAgk. It's quick to make, and doesn't require to much tools.

Step 1: Tools Needed

As I said, you don't need much :

A piece of flat wood for the base of the router.

A chisel and a drill bit 2 or 3 mm smaller than the chisel. My chisel is a 10 mm and my drill bit 8 mm.

A drill to make the hole.

A piece of hardwood or a mallet.

The digital angle finder is only to check the angle.

Step 2: Let's Make It

I marked the angle on the side to check as I drill the hole. It need to be drill between 35° and 45°, it doesn't have to be exact.

That drilling at 90° and progressively lean the drill to the angle you want. As you can see, my drilling is in between our angle, it doesn't need to be precise.

When your hole is done push the chisel in by using the hardwood or a mallet. Keep checking your chisel is in the middle of the hole.

When it came out, they're gonna be tear out, clean it with another chisel to keep a flat surface.

That's it, you just made a router plane.

Step 3: How to Use It

To set the depth, you just need a mallet or piece of hardwood.

If you tape on the chisel it's gonna go deeper down, and to retract it, just tape the base behind the chisel, it's gonna come out.

My chisel didn't come in the hole square, that's not a problem, I just start routing sideways with the highest point and going to the deepest.

Enjoy your new tool.
