Introduction: A Simple Way to Make Frosting

About: I'm just your ordinary next door neighbor who just so happens to spend free time at the golf course, in her kitchen, traveling around the world, among many other activities. Mood: Excited to post new Instructa…

Frosting is delicious for people of all ages. Its rich and creamy texture is a great topping for cupcakes, wedding cakes, and even the occasional spoon (as we all can't resist an early tasting). The following instructable will show avid bakers to the inexperienced cook how to make sophisticated frosting.

Thank you for those who voted for this instructable!

Step 1: Ingredients

Ingredients:

A little less than ¾ cups of confectioner’s sugar
1 Tablespoon of butter at room temperature
2 1/2 Teaspoons of milk (the more milk is added the more runny the frosting is)
Food coloring (optional)
And of course a cupcake to frost

**These measurements only makes a little bit of frosting. For big projects, such as a wedding cake, you will certainly have to multiply this recipe by a lot.

The above ingredients are to make plain frosting. However, we all know that there are also many different flavorings to go along with our favorite cupcake. Below there are ingredients to make all kinds of different frosting flavors.

Vanilla Frosting:
3/4 Teaspoon or less Vanilla Extract

Chocolate Frosting:
1 1/2 Teaspoon of cocoa powder (you can use the hot chocolate kind too :)

Coffee Cake Frosting:
A Sprinkle of Cinnamon
3/4 Teaspoon or less Vanilla Extract
Enough instant coffee to make the vanilla have the consistency of syrup

Mango Frosting:
1/4 of a ripe mango crushed to a pulp

For almost all fruits substitute mango for the chosen fruit

Lemon Frosting:
1 Tablespoon of lemon juice
Lemon rind

More flavors should be added later.

Equipment:
A stand or hand mixer
A spatula

Step 2: Addition of Ingredients

Add confectioner’s sugar, 2 1/2 teaspoons of milk, and the butter to the mixer. This is also the time to add the ingredients for the flavoring you chose.

Step 3: Mix

Turn the mixer on to medium speed and keep it on until the milk gets blended into the rest of the ingredients slightly. Scrape the bowl with your spatula.

Step 4: Making the Flavoring

Add the ingredients for the flavoring you chose to a separate bowl. Microwave for 10 to 15 seconds.

I used vanilla flavoring and food coloring so this step doesn't really have a set picture. It depends on what flavoring your decide to use.

Pour the flavoring into the rest of the frosting ingredients.

Step 5: Finishing Up

Turn the mixer back on medium speed. Continuously scrape the bowl. If the mixer seems to dry add just a little bit more milk. You should end up with the most delicious frosting for your next baking creation.
