ATTiny85 LED Laser Light

About: I'm the Unexpected Maker! Join me on my journey as I make and possibly break all sorts of projects I am interested in, all from the comfort of your couch!

I had a bunch of ATTiny85 micro-controller chips laying around and reels of neopixel strips... so I decided I wanted to make something bright and colourful for my kids....

The full build process is in the video but I have included some additional images to help with the component placement and using the ATTiny85 in the Arduino IDE.

I have also included design files for a laser cut base and a 3D printed base, but I also show in the video that you could easily build a base for the display out of foam-board.

The build steps are pretty straight forward...

  1. Cut the Protoboard to size
  2. Solder on the 8 pin IC socket
  3. Solder on the 2.1mm power cable
  4. Solder on the 10uF Capacitor
  5. Solder on the 330ohm Resistor
  6. Solder wires between the strip of 4 Neopixels and the PCB
  7. Make sure all GND and PWR pins are bridged

The you need to program your ATTiny85 with any neopixel library code you want.

To use the ATTiny85 in the Arduino IDE, you will need to add the following board link to the Additional Boards Manager URLs area of the Arduino IDE Preferences (See example picture)

https://raw.githubusercontent.com/damellis/attiny/ide-1.6.x-boards-manager/package_damellis_attiny_index.json

Once that has been added, you will need to add the ATTiny Board Files from the Board Manager (See example picture)

I hope you enjoy this project and decide to take on the challenge of making it or something similar!

    Hello there!

We're glad you want to share something with the Instructables community!

And we’re here to help you out.

Due to some recent changes on the site, we are no longer able to publish stand-alone videos and other forms of incomplete posts. In order to be published live on the site, Instructables must consist of the following things:

    - Multiple steps showing how you made your project

    - Written instructions in each step

    - Your own original images

Beyond making your Instructable simply publishable, this guide (https://www.instructables.com/id/How-to-Create-a-Feature-Worthy-Instructable/) explains what is required to have your Instructables featured by our site editors. It’s very helpful, and definitely worth checking out.

We would love to review your project again after you have made the necessary edits, and we will publish your project if it is eligible.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask right here or send us an email at service@instructables.com.

    Best,
