Intro: Add IKEA Bekant Sit/Stand Legs to a Bekant Corner Desk
I've had my Galant corner desk for years and absolutely love it. But I've really wanted to upgrade to a sit/stand desk. Trouble is that I have a massive computer setup with a PC tower and four monitors (2 - 27" HP HD Monitors and 2 - 19" LCD monitors). When IKEA recently announced that it was launching the Bekant sit/stand desk setup, I got excited. The IKEA sales associate told me that the Galant and Bekant are not compatible, he was right. But a little bit of adapting and I got it all to work.
Step 1: Step 1: Line Up Bekant With Galant Frame
The Bekant comes with a bunch of plastic push clip fasteners to secure it to approved Bekant desktops. In the case of my Galant, I needed to keep the metal frame attached to accommodate the desk extensions that I had. So I lined up the stock holes on the Bekant frame (white) with the Galant metal frame (grey). Grab a drill and bit to match the uncliped diameter of the push clips (3/8" fits, if I remember right). Drill a few holes in the Galant frame where the stock Bekant whole match up. Some will not be perfectly centered but as long as you get a pretty cleanly drilled hole it will work.
Step 2: Step 2: Add the Push Clips
Add the push clip bases, then pop in the inserts. I had to tap a few in with some gentle hammer taps. But it all fit together and held nice and strong with just 6 clips. Get a friend to help you flip the whole thing over and you're all set. Keep in mind that the Bekant legs have a 75 kg weight limit and the Galant and frame weighs a lot. My setup with computer and monitors probably nearly hits that maximum but it still raises and lowers just fine.
This is a great way to get a huge sit/stand desk for a fraction of the price. Cheers!
