Introduction: Animatronic Hand Out of Drinking Straws
First of all, this is my first Instructable, so take pity on me!
I will show you how to make an animatronic hand. This is very similar to tanntraad's hand, but it uses common objects that most people have at home.

Step 1: Materials
You will need:
5 drinking straws - I used Glad Flexible straws. You can use bendy or non bendy.
Some string or twine - I used some twine. Any fairly strong string will do.
Tape - I used tiny strips of duct tape. You can use any tape, but I'd avoid Scotch tape. Not strong enough.
Step 2: Cutting - the Straws
You don't have to follow these measurements exactly. These are just guidelines.
First, if your straws are bendy, cut off the the bendy bit. Then, cut the straws to this length or your length.
Straw 1 (index): 4 7/8" (~12.3 cm)
Straw 2 (middle): 5" (~13 cm)
Straw 3 (ring): 4 3/4" (~12 cm)
Straw 4 (little): 4" (~10 cm)
Straw 5 (thumb): 3 1/2" (~9 cm)
Measure 1/2 an inch in from the end of straw 1, pinch it and cut a V shape about half way in. If you don't get what I mean by a V, check out step 3, pic 3. Then measure an inch from the bottom of the V, and cut another V. Measure another inch, and cut the third and final V. Repeat on straws 2, 3, and 4. Do this on straw 5, but make the first & second and second & third Vs 3/4" apart. These Vs will be the knuckles/joints. On the thumb (straw 5), make a 4th cut perpendicular to the Vs that runs from just below the 3rd V to the midpoint of the straw.
Step 3: The String
Now for the strings. Take your string, feed it through a straw/finger (starting at the bottom) and fold it over the straw at the top, almost at the first V. Then cut it off 4 inches or so at the bottom. Do this for all the fingers. Make sure you don't mess up which string goes with each finger! If you don't get what I mean, look at the pics. It's ok if the fold unfolds.
Step 4: Taping
Next will be taping. Cut a piece of tape 1 inch long and as wide as the distance from the end of the finger to the first knuckle. Fold the string down and wrap the tape around. Tightly!! Repeat on the other fingers. Then, set the thumb aside, and wrap a strip around the four fingers just below the bottommost knuckle on the little finger. **Make sure the bottom of the straws are even!! Also, make absolute certain that the knuckles are all facing up!!!!** About 5 in. of tape should be enough. Next, take another piece of tape and tape the thumb on.
Step 5: Cutting & Tying
Now, cut the strings to the lengths you want plus 1/2 an inch. Then, tie (or tape) each string into a loop, for your own finger. And you're done!
