Had an crazy idea to make an apple pie inside of an apple for the UPPERMOST CHEF: APPLES CHALLENGE.
This recipe is very straight forward and simple. You can mix this recipe up with your favorite apple pie recipe, use pie crust . I just made this very simple and used puff pastry and a simple but tasty filling.
Step 1: Ingredients
At least 2 apples ( i used Granny Smith apples)
pinch of ground nutmeg
at least 100 grams of puff pastry
some flour for rolling.
Preheat the oven 180 degrees C / 356 degrees F
Step 2: Prepare the Apple
First of all wash the apple. Then cut off the top of the apple. Then take a knife and cut a guideline for hollowing the apple. Take a regular tablespoon and start hollowing the apple, just scoop.
After your done, coat the inside of the apple with cinnamon and set it aside .
Step 3: Filling
Wash the other apple and dice the apple into small cubes. Peeling the apple is optional. Put the apple cubes into a small saucepan and add 2 tsp of cinnamon, 1 tbs of sugar and a pinch of ground nutmeg. Turn the heat to medium and cook for 7-10 minutes.
You can add more sugar or cinnamon for your taste.
Step 4: Bake It
Just pack the apple with the filling , roll some puff pasty to make a cap for the apple ( aprox. 3mm thick) . Coat the puff pastry with eggwash (just whisk one egg up) .
Bake it at 180 degrees C / 356 degrees F . For 12-15 minutes (til the pastry is nice and golden).
Enjoy it with vanilla ice cream!
