Intro: Arduino_Cup_Design

Arduino is an open-source platform used for building electronics projects. Arduino consists of both a physical programmable circuit board (often referred to as a microcontroller) and a piece of software, or IDE (Integrated Development Environment) that runs on your computer, used to write and upload computer code to the physical board.

The Arduino hardware and software was designed for artists, designers, hobbyists, hackers, newbies, and anyone interested in creating interactive objects or environments. Arduino can interact with buttons, LEDs, motors, speakers, GPS units, cameras, the internet, and even your smart-phone or your TV!

With some simple code, the Arduino can control and interact with a wide variety of sensors - things that can measure light, temperature, degree of flex, pressure, proximity, acceleration, carbon monoxide, radioactivity, humidity, barometric pressure, you name it, you can sense it!

I will design a smart cup with arduino.

Step 1: Product 1 : Glasses

I design these glasses for my class which is named Glass Design and Production Technology.

My concept is about cocktail glasses.

Beside your drink, some snacks, carrots and beer nuts are served. Different containers are used for these snacks.

There are 2 different design on the table and the aim of this project is providing integrity between glasses and these containers.

Now I will redesign this project with arduino and try to add some smart features to glasses.

What concepts can be?

Step 2: Concept 1 of Product 1 : Sense Drink_Cocktail Glasses

The electronics parts are hidden at the bottom. These electronics parts are arduino mini, load sensor, leds etc. The material of bottom part is different to hide cables and arduino. Wood can be one of the choices.

When you finish your drink or snacks on the table at cocktail, it sends a message to waiter/waitress thanks to load sensor. Leds can be added to the design.

Step 3: Concept 1 Product 2 : Travel Mugs_Dehydration

How much water did you drink today?

In this concept, we will measure how much water we drink today.

With wireless pressure sensor and an app we can measure now.

We can add light sensor to remind us drinking water.

Step 4: Concept 2 of Product 1 : Table With Aurdino

İt is not noticed that the drinks are over at cocktails. This is a problem for both guests and waiters.

To solve this problem aurdino can be used.


Drinks are served at the beginning of cocktail.

There are aurdino systems at the cocktail table.

When you finish your drink, you will put the glass in the middle of table.

Then this gives a message to the waiters and you will get a new drink.


Needs: Load cell sensor, light sensor, aurdiono, wireless

What is a load cell?

There are a number of different designs of load cell .Each load cell has a rated capacity.The load cell is a metal bar with strain gauges glued to it. When a load is placed on the bar it deforms very slightly due to the shear force. This deformation is measured by the strain gauges. We will measure the output voltage of the strain gauge as the voltage changes more the more the bar deforms. The change in voltage is very small, however. We will amplify the output using the INA 125P.

The one I will has range of 0 to 5 kg. I can add light sensor to give the message that drinks are over or with wireless I can create an app.

    your concepts are very nice :)

    For first project, the two sided glass design looks greate, but i could not understand second step of it. Is it going to be produced from two pieces? Maybe it can be painted with opac paint. the paint can be two layered with different patterns. When there is no light it will be straight opac colour, and when its on we can see some patterns or such.

    And the second project is also a necessity. But it should measue all day the total amount of water. I mean 1 liter finished and I filled again it should add the amount or something like that.

    For the second step, I will add an electronic part so it shold be protective and also elecetronics shouldnt seem from outside. But the idea of the different patterns is good.

    Second concept, I agree with you. I thought it will always measure and I can see how much ı drunk totally in a day.
