Argumented Reality Glass - Very Very Cheap 2$, Easy Build, Run All Apps

About: Want to do some thing best with my less resource.

After hologram using Computer Monitor, Some plan to develop a very cheap AR glass. With out any major plan start to develop the model. After two attempts make a AR glass which is very cheap and also able to view all the applications. It even never hurt the eyes and never cause irritation to the eyes. Also able to read clearly. Use it as Head up display also.

We read news, Play games, Use google Navigation any thing in this head set. If Bluetooth game pad Controller then its very easy to use with out remove the head set.

Step 1: Materials Required Maximum Cost 2$

Materials vary from first design to the completed one. But materials added to the list only.

Materials Required

1) 3/4" PVC wiring pipe.

2) 3/4" PVC Tee - 8Nos

3) 3/4" PVC Elbow - 2Nos

4) Clear mirror 3" X 6" - 1Nos

5) Mobile back cover-1 No (I used my old cover)

6) Acrylic sheet or New CD Cover with out scratches.

7) 1/2" Wire tape to make it wearable. (Got from binding)

8) 1/2" Elastic 6".

9) Quick Fix paste.

Now see how much all cost

1) PVC pipe, Tee, Elbow - 70 Rs around 1$.

2) Mirror - 20 Rs 0.28$.

3) Mobile back, CD Cover, 1/2" Wire tape Its from old.

4) 1/2" Elastic 1 meter 20 Rs i use only 6" so its cost only 5 Rupees its 0.071$.

5) Quick Fix cost Rs 35 its 0.5$.

So total cost is around 1.851$.I don't think it complete in this low budget. But take long time due to two failures.

Step 2: Prepare the Pieces

The first job is to Prepare the pieces for the first design. As i already told i make changes two times to get the final out put. But most of the piece sizes are same. In every design i marked the size. Cut the PVC pipes to the above sizes.

For the final output you need

1) 3Cm - 1 No

2) 4 CM - 4Nos

3) 7cm - 4Nos

4) 2.6cm - 2Nos

5) 12cm - 2Nos

Step 3: Design1 Step by Step

How to join is cant able to explain so see the above pictures for step by step joint. Now the base frame work is finished. The above design front one is failure because of we want to lift the eyes upward to see the video so some changes for design2.

Failure 1

In this design the reflected image is streight to the screen so want to look above to view the reflection. This hurt the eyes and cause head ache.

Step 4: Mobile Holder

In the center Tee fix the mobile back cover using Quick fix. Check all the sides distance must be same. And fix it with all the surface of the tee with cover then only mobile is safe. In the I change the side 4 cm height to 11 cm for the design changes.

Step 5: Screen Holder

In the front side acrylic tee joint make a cut and insert the acrylic sheet. and The out put is like last image.

Step 6: Design2 Sucess With Only Some Application

This model works fine and able to view the video directly with out lift the eyes.

Failure 2

Text in the screen is reverse because the acrylic sheet reflect the screen directly So unable to read the navigation, Messages etc. Also confuse the left and right hands...

Step 7: Adding Another Reflection

Add a reflection between the mobile display and the screen. For my mobile size i purchase 3" X 6" glass and plan to fix it like the mobile. so first paste it in with the tee joint.

Step 8: Final Working Design

After 2 Changes this is the final working Model. In the first picture give the size of the pipes want to connect.

Step 9: Paste Some Joints and Allow to Rotate

After complete the design Paste the joints marked a Red circle and don't paste the joints marked as green. Then only we able to rotate the mirror, Mobile and screen to make it view correctly. If you feel ok paste it also. But i never paste it because for some one head we want to change the position of the screen.

Step 10: Change Positions and Finalize

The mirror and mobile angle must be 45 degree. Adjust to the required degree up to image show straight to the eyes. Tilt and Place it on the table and use it as like Head Up display also.

Step 11: Make Head Band

Use bundle tape to make a head band piece. In the back side use elastic to hold it tight with the head. This measurement is according to the head. If you have safety helmet head band use it so every have use the glass easily.

Step 12: Fixing Head Band

Fix the head band on the three sides in the fore head, Left ear side and right ear side. Now its ready to wear.

Step 13: Testing in Both Headset Mode and Head Up Display

Step 14: Paint

As per my wife white for VR glass look so different so want to paint it cheap. So use black permanent marker to paint the whole setup. Its take some long time. Now the Glass is ready to rock.

Step 15: Only One Change in Mobile

In the mobile off the auto brightness settings and Put the brightness to the highest level. Now even in the light we able to view the details clearly on the screen.

Step 16: Enjoy AR

First i play Videos and check the navigation and Play game. My daughter like to watch Hologram videos. But want to hold in hands because i make the had band for my size. See the videos of how it works. Next step is to make it mixed reality.

    Nicely done! I love the low cost. Materials that you used are great. Some of us cannot afford 3D printers which so many projects seem to use. நான் தமிழ் பேசவில்லை, அதனால் உங்கள் ஆங்கிலம் பற்றி புகார் செய்ய முடியாது. I think your English is fine.

    Thank You very much. See very happy to see Tamil. Yeah sure here no tools like other parts of the world and no workshops as like foreign. That's why i use things available around us.

    Amazing instructable, but the English is a little difficult to read. Very good idea none the less, gave me some ideas for some of my projects

    Yep. Knew what you were saying, jegatheesan, though your wordage was off the mark, but I don't speak even a fraction of two languages, so am apprehensive about pointing out errors like this. In the end, it remains this is an impressive project.

    No dispute from me I viewed the whole project and thought it good. I did find the title distracting. But that being said I'm sure if I offended the engineer of this project he would be grown up enough to speak for himself. As it is he has overlooked my comment which is fine by me.. And you are right this version of Augmented reality viewer is impressive.
