Automated Irrigation System Using Cayenne




This is a project to control our irrigation system, in this case drip, using a Raspberry Pi 2 and Cayenne MyDevices IOT platform.

This project was created in order to be able to have full control of our irrigation from anywhere with a simple Internet connection using the MyDevices Cayenne platform. Besides that in these times we need to save water, and the method of drip irrigation have enough water savings. I thank the developers of this platform as we facilitate the creation of new projects, in just a few minutes.

Step 1: Structure of the Control Panel

The structure of this panel is as follows:

  • 1 Raspberry Pi 2
  • 1 Arduino Mega
  • 1 Relay Generic 4 -Chanels
  • 1 WiFi Adapter antenna 8 DBi
  • 1 Sensor Pir
  • 1 Servo Motor
  • LCD 16X2 Interfaz i2c
  • Teclado 4X4

The connection is established as follows:

  • The raspberry pi installed in its operating system scripts Cayenne MyDevices the platform, which controls the opening and closing of the valve which actuates the flow of water.

  • When we send the signal from the platform itself raspberry para relay Power give way to power the irrigation valve is actuated.

  • For security control panel uses the mega arduino, which interacts with a keyboard for entering 4X4 key, if this is correct move the servo to a certain position to allow opening.

  • Once the pir motion sensor detects open and automatically sends a notification.

Step 2: Electronic Connections Diagrams.

In this part, we show the connections carried out in the Control Panel, you must have previously installed the operating system raspberry pi.

The project is based on a wooden structure with certain dimensions, but you can adapt the facilities to your garden for example.

Step 3: Structure PVC Water Tank, and CPVC for Irrigation Lines

Irrigation structure that implements this project consists of the following:

  • 1 MT PVC 4"
  • 3 MTS CPVC 1/2"
  • Glue for PVC and CPVC

  • Adapters and Reducers
  • Water Pump

Step 4: Finally the Control Panel Cayenne MyDevices

Once we conclude with all the design and structure of the project, we can start the control panel cayenne.

    looks great. it might be a bit overkill to use a raspberry and an arduino Mega just for irrigation but hey, who care :-)
    I have done many irrigation projects and I really like your set up

    thank you very much, if it can be much hardware for irrigation =) if I really like wood facilities, I will continue publishing as creating the installation of wood.

    As a matter of fact I find the mechanics of yr project definitely as interesting as the electronics. I would prefer to have the irrigation pipes on the soil.. to avoid mold (coz of wet leaves) and evaporation, but I presume your pump is a self draining pump and with a low outlet would perhaps drain the entire reservoir.

    How about a light ? Are you use a normal indoor light or specific lighting ?
