Introduction: Avengers Series 2: Bear America

About: I don't think I'm necessarily cooler then anyone else, but I enjoy my life regardless. Tswee! P.S.: I'm pretty cool though ;)

This years halloween theme is Avengers.
I will be uploading several instructables detailing how I put the various outfits together.
Secondly, bear America.

Alynn (my boyfriend's teddy bear) goes everywhere with us, he is his own person.
His escapades can be followed on facebook: https://www.facebook.com/alynn.worldwidde?fref=ts
This year he will be dressing as Captain America; thus bear america.

Step 1: What You Need

You are going to need a bear :D

a blue stocking
white nail polish
scissors
some brushes
a piece of card
red, white and blue paint (not shown here)

Step 2: Helmet: Cutting

Cut off the toe of your stocking.
I cut mine at about 3 inches, but it will depend on the size of your bear.
Make sure that the piece you cut off fits nicely over his whole head.

put the piece of stocking on your bear so you can see where the eye holes go.
mark them and then cut them out.

I like using stockings for Alynn's costumes because it stretches and so is easy to do without too much skill.

Step 3: Helmet: Painting

Captain America's helmet has two white wings on the side.
I painted mine on (like in the movie) rather then struggling with making attaching ones (like the comics).

I used white nail polish to paint the wings as I know it works well on stockings without tearing or cracking too much.

I sketched the wings first, but if you can freehand them, go for it.

Let the helmet dry long enough and that's step 1 done!

Step 4: Shirt: Cutting

I used one of Alynn's existing shirts as a guide line.
but the design is pretty simple.
Just draw a T-shape with a very wide base.
See what fits your teddy and how long you want the shirt to be.

If you cut it slightly too small, it won't be a big deal as the nylon will stretch around your bear.

When you cut, leave room for the seams.

Step 5: Shirt: Sewing

I used the sewing machine.
But you can very easily stitch it by hand, it'll just take longer.

I cut my shirt in such a way that I didn't need to sew the seam on the shoulder.
If you have a bigger bear, this won't be possible, so you will have more sewing to do.
Remember to leave a hole for the head to fit through.

Step 6: Shirt: Painting

The costume requires a white star on the front of the shirt.

Sketch it, then use nail polish to paint it on the shirt.
Allow to dry sufficiently

Shirt = done!

Step 7: Shield: Cutting

Cut a circle out of the card.
I used a glass to trace

Step 8: Shield: Drawing and Painting

Draw the shield design on the card circle.
i free handed it cause I couldn't find my protractor.
Doesn't look too lop-sided.

Paint the design

If you want better reference pics for the shield, go ahead and google them.

lastly, attach some elastic to the back of the shield so your bear can hold it up.

All done !!!
