Introduction: Baguette Breakfast French Toast

Got a leftover baguette that has gone hard? Here's the perfect way to make a deliciously sweet breakfast out of stale bread.

Add fruit, jam, maple syrup, honey, yogurt or anything else you'd like to make breakfast exciting! You can even make it savoury by adding cheese, herbs, hot sauce and/or grilled veggies.

Step 1: Ingredients

Eggs (one for each person)

Milk

Vanilla

Baguette

Salt

Oil or butter to grease the pan

Cinnamon

Step 2: Scramble/stir and Slice

Crack the eggs into a medium bowl that is shallow enough for the bread slices to dip into it.

Add a splash of milk, a few drops of vanilla and a dash of salt. For 5 people, we used 5 eggs, about 1/4 cup milk and 1 teaspoon of vanilla.

Scramble/stir the egg mixture until it's fully combined.

Cut the baguette lengthways 3 times (safety tip: use a sharp knife and cut away from your hand). Cut the length of bread into smaller parts (in thirds).

Step 3: Soak and Pan Fry

Prep a large pan on medium high heat a few minutes before cooking. Dip the bread pieces in the egg mixture and add to a hot pan with some oil or butter.

Sprinkle a dash of cinnamon on the slices.

Each side will take about 3-4 minutes until they are golden brown on the edges and bottom. Flip the slices of french toast using a spatula.

Add the finished pieces to a hot plate in the oven. Keep warm until all pieces are cooked and ready. It's recommended that all plates are warmed in the oven until breakfast is ready. Use the lowest setting or "keep warm" setting on the oven. Safety tip: use oven gloves or a dish towel to put the plates out and to bring out the french toast.

Put out fruit, syrup and any other toppings on the table.
