Setting up an Instagram account its very simple. After you download Instagram from the app store, open up the app on your mobile device or tablet.
The first page that you will see is the log in page. At the bottom it says "Don't have an account? Sign up." Click on that, since you don't have an account yet.
The next page will ask you to "Add phone number." If you don't want to add your phone number you can sign up using email. Once you add your phone number or email click "Next."
This is the page where you make your account. It will ask you to type in your name, username (of your choice) and a password. Once you have all 3 boxes filled out, click "Next"

Step 1: Browsing Instagram

After you set up your account and you have clicked "Next" (from the previous page), you will see that there are thousands of other people on Instagram. You will most likely want to follow your friends accounts and Instagram makes that easy. Once you create your account the next pages that pop up will be "Find Facebook friends" which allows you to search through your Facebook friends who already have Instagram accounts. the next page will be "Find Contacts," which will allow you to search through your contacts to see who of your friends are already on Instagram
After you search Facebook friends or friends in your contacts, the next page will somewhere to "discover people" and it will take you a page where you can scroll through a bunch of different accounts.

Step 2: Searching on Your Own

There is also a symbol at the bottom tab of Instagram where you can type any word in and get several different results. Click on the magnifying glass symbol to search. For example, if you are interested in history or want to find some cool historical photos, type in history and click search.
The next page will show you all the results that Instagram has. You can click on anything that pops up.
To show an example, I clicked on the first one that popped up. This is an Instagram account called History, which comes from history.com This account has several different photos including people, places, and events throughout history.

Step 3: More Search Examples

Just like we searched 'History' in the previous slide, you can search for anything you want to see on Instagram and you will get multiple results. I've provided one more example to show you.

Example:

I typed in Chicago food into the search bar because I am from Chicago. One of the top results I got was 312food, so I clicked on that Instagram account to see what the account was like. This account has hundreds of pictures of food from different restaurants in Chicago and the Instagram user also provides the name of the restaurant and where it is located in Chicago. This kind of account could be helpful for someone who wants to try a new restaurant in Chicago or for someone who is visiting the city for the first time. I clicked on one picture of a hamburger and fries. In the caption it told me the restaurant where I could get this burger, which is called Two. it also provided where it is located in Chicago, which is West Town.

Step 4: Uploading Pictures

Uploading pictures to your account is fun and very easy.

On the bottom tab of Instagram, click on the icon that looks like a camera.
It will then take you to your camera roll, which allows you to choose any photo that you have taken on you phone/tablet and upload it. Once you choose the picture you want, click "Next" on the top right corner.
Here you get to choose a filter, which enhances the color of the photo depending on which filter you pick. There are over 20 different filters to choose from. When you choose the one you like, you can edit it even more.
Next to the filter icon there are 2 more Icons the second icon (that looks like a sun) is for enhancing the colors even more, and the third one (that looks like a tool) provides you with multiple different editing tools such as brightness, contrast, structure, saturation etc.
In my example, I clicked on the tools icon. I clicked on the structure tool which then showed me a scale of 0-100 of how structured I wanted it to look. I put it all the way to 100 to make it look sharper and more defined. Then I clicked the check mark on the right side. If you are done using all of the editing tools, click "Next" on the top right corner.
On this page you create your caption, you tag any friends in your photo, add a location, and share it to any other social media you want to (Facebook, Twitter, Tumbler, Flickr). When you're done click "share as... (C_DOLAN85)" at the bottom of the page.
Once you share it, your followers will be able to see your Instagram on their news feed. They can Like it (the heart) or comment on it (the text bubble).
