Introduction: Big Toys for Big Dogs

I have problems finding toys for my big dog that last for more that five minutes. This is a collection of toys and chews, some bought and some homemade, that my dog didn't rip appart or eat for at least a month.

DISCLAIMER: I got all the photos off the internet my dogs toys are not fit to be photographed and/or i could not find them. He likes to hide things. So if you see your photo in this instructable and would like me to remove it, please just tell me, nicely :D

Step 1: Paid Toys

The next couple of pages will be toys that i have bought for my dog.

1) Rubber Ball

This ball was $10 at i believe it was the Bargin Shop. It may seem like a lot of money for a ball but it is completely solid rubber and my dog has had it for months and loves it but there are only a couple teeth marks in it. Tennis balls with my dog last about 10 seconds before they are destroyed. We play fetch with a tennis ball and by the second time he brings it back, it is in pieces.

Step 2: Kong

2) Kong

We got Sammy his Kong as one of his first toys. It has lasted for 2 years with my boxer. Kongs are amazing! You can get ones that float, ones that are squeaky, ones for big dogs ones for small dogs. WE put peanut butter in his kong and freeze it, then it takes him longer to lick it all out.

Step 3: Wubba

3) Wubba

Wubbas, i believe, are made by the same company as Kongs. Sadly our Wubba is missing, Sam had it for a year but he tossed it over a fence and now we can not find it. When he had his Wubba, he would lay on his back , on the trampoline and chew on it because it was squeaky. Or he would shake the crap out of it. You can get cheap knock off Wubbas at Dollarama those one only lasted 2 weeks with Sam.Sam's Wubba was bone-shaped.

Step 4: Rope

4) Rope

This was the first rope we got Sam, like his kong, it survived 2 years with him. Surprisingly we got this one at wal-mart.

Step 5: Dinosaur Bone

5) Dino Bone

These dino bonesSam loves. He lays there and licks all the bits off then chews it all apart. It takes him a couple months to do it so it isn't a one day thing  like his rawhide chews. Beware though, the stink very, Very bad in small , confined spaces. Your dog probaly likes the smell but you won't. We got this at the vet clinic for $15. It is some sort of buffalo bone. Looks appetizing doesn't it.

Step 6: DIY Toys

This is the part where i show you how to make your own toys.

1) Duct Tape Toy

For this one you wil need either Cellophane or a Newspaper and Duct Tape.

So what you do is you fold the newpaper or cellophane into a rectangle.tThen you tapeit all the way around the body of it.After that put two layers of tape on the end. I find it easiest if yo have the tape so the ends are along side it. Then you  tape it all the way aong the body agian making sure there is no ends sticking up.

If you put cellophane in it when your dog bites it it will make a crinkly sound. MAKE SURE there are no ends sticking up. The toy will last only a couple weeks if you do. If you don't the toys could last for a long time. I made one a couple months ago and it is still going strong.

Step 7: DIY Stuffy

2) Stuffy

For this one you need to know how to sew. You will need Canvas (or a like material), squeakers (amazon), that fluffly stuff you use to make pillows, and heavy duty thread.

Cut 6 squares out of the canvas. It doesn't matter how bigg they are but they all need to be the same size. Start sewing the squares into a cube. Before you sew the last square on fill the cube half full of the fluffy stuff and then stick a squeaker on top. Sew 3 and a 1/2 sides of the last square. Finish stuffing the cube and sew it up. It usually works better if you double stich the canvas together. It lasts longer.

You could make this what ever size, shape, color you want it. Sam loves his. This one is his favourite inside toy. He also likes to snuggle with it even if it is just a cube.

Step 8: DIY Rope

3) Rope

For this one you could make it out of fabric or bungee cord or just normal rope.

You need to take 2 strips of whatever you are using. Knot the two pieces together. Then do it agian and agian and agian until you have reached the length you want it to be.Make sure the knots are tight so it doesn't come unraveled easily.

Sam had one of these and then my grandpa's pug came over and claimed it. She then decided to hide it in her cage and take it home with her.

Step 9: DIY Tug

4) Tug

This one Sam loved as a puppy.

Take a sock and a ball. Stick the ball inside the sock. Knot the sock so the ball can't fall out. There all done :D

THis one is a good one for on the fly toys.

Step 10: Sticks

5) Sticks

So if your dog is smart enough not to eat the stick after he chews it, this is a easy inexpensive way to get toys/chews.

Find a stick. Give it to your dog. All done.

Sam loves sticks. He can chomp through inch thick stiks with ease. He wa\ill literally steal sticks from peoples yards when we are on walks if there are big ones in the yard.
