February 20th - Having finished my Afghan, I am making a Prayer Shawl, http://www.shawlministry.com/ for my friend Cathy's dad. Ed fell and broke and displaced six ribs last week when he was at the bowling alley. Not a great present for Valentine's day. Now this active man has to sit/recline in a chair for at least six weeks while the ribs mend themselves. Therefore, to make up for this I am knitting him a prayer shawl from the Lion Brand Prayer Shawl Ministry book http://pages.e-yarn.com/6030/PictPage/1922238246.html , which contains all sorts of designs for both crochet and knitting. As Ed is a retired minister, I hope he will like the shawl. Hopefully it will keep draughts away from his neck as he lies in the chair.

The pattern I am using is called "Knit Wide Scarf" and the colour chosen is Homesplun Nouveau http://cache.lionbrand.com//yarns/homespun.htm . Although predominently brown in colour, Nouveau is a great random yarn, and it looks very different in different lights as you can see in the photos with hints of green, red and blue. I am using bamboo circular needles, no 10 1/2 and should finish very soon as I am on the last skein. (It takes three skeins) Of course the cat has got in the act - as usual!
