Introduction: Captain America Baby Beanie & Shield Blanket

About: Not THAT kind of hooker. The kind armed with a crochet hook. ;)

I had originally written the pattern for this preemie baby blanket and beanie for a group that was looking for knit and crochet patterns for items to donate to a charity called Newborns in Need. I couldn't pass up a chance to make something for the littlest heroes of all! The pattern is posted up for free at my ravelry site!

Here's what you'll need:

  • Size G crochet hook
  • Worsted weight yarn in red, white, and blue
  • Tapestry needle
  • The pattern!

Ready, set, hook!

Step 1: Making the Hat

Crochet the hat as written in the pattern. It should be crocheted in a continuous spiral. Then crochet the wings and "A" emblem. Sew one wing to each side of the hat - it helps to sew it just along the rounded part and leave the tips free so they can have that cute flapping look! Sew the "A" emblem directly to the front of the hat.

Step 2: Making the Blanket

Start by crocheting the blue center as written in the pattern, then crochet the stripes. To eliminate the "jog" that tends to occur during color changes, check out these tutorials by PlanetJune! Crochet the star as instructed and sew it to the blue center circle, spacing each of the points evenly and at the edge where the blue center and the first red stripe meets.
