This is a great and easy cardboard target that you can customize to fit your needs. It is small, lightweight, and you can easily take it apart. This target is for guns and will not work very well with a bow.
Step 1: Planning
How do you plan to make a small cardboard target, you may ask. Well, there are a few things. First, you don't want to have any creases in your cardboard, so you need to keep this in mind when you are picking the cardboard out. Second, you need to know what gun you will be using, so you know how much cardboard you need. If you are going to be using a airsoft pistol, like me, you will only need one or two or more layers of cardboard. If you are going to be using a bb-gun, you will need about six or more layers. Third, do you want to just draw the bulls eye on the cardboard, or do you want to do it on a paper. You will need to know this, so you can get the right supplies. Lastly, how big do you want your target to be. You need to know this so you know how much cardboard to get.
You will want to think these things through before you start making it, but now we're done with the boring planning! It's time to go making!
Step 2: Materials and Tools
Lots of cardboard. Color, thickness and size don't matter. Just get lots without creases.
Pencil. Get a pencil, not a pen.
Ruler. If you don't want to be precise, you wont need this.
Sharp knife. You need it sharp!
Piece of paper. You may need more than one depending on how big the target will be.
Glue. If you don't want a piece of paper, you wont want this.
Step 3: Cutting Your Cardboard Squares
If your cardboard is already in the shape you want it, just skip this step.
If you did correct planning, you should know already how big you want your target. Now go and cut the cardboard in the size you want the target to be. Cut about 2-6 squares all the same size. You will need some cardboard left over after you are done with this step.
Step 4: The Bulls Eye
In this step we will make the bulls eye.
Take you piece(s) of paper and put a cardboard square on top of it. Cut off the paper that sticks out of the cardboard. Take a pencil and draw the bulls eye on the paper. Glue the paper on a cardboard square.
That was fun! let's continue to the next step.
Step 5: Base
In the step you will be making the base of the target.
Take your pencil and ruler and make a line on a long piece of cardboard about 2 inches from the bottom. Cut along the line. Repeat this so you have two long strips of cardboard about 2 inches wide.
That step was fun and fast! On to the longest and boringest step.
Step 6: Making the Actual Target
This is the longest step. If you have a sharp knife it will go faster.
Take your ruler and pencil and make two long (about 1 1/2 inch), skinny boxes close to the edges of a cardboard square. Cut them out with your knife. Set the cardboard square you already cut on a square that you didn't cut. Trace the lines where you cut on the square. Cut them out and do this to all your squares including the one with the bulls eye. Now set all you squares on the base with the bulls eye in front. Cut off most (not all) of the base sticking out.
You are done! If that was too confusing, the pictures should help a bunch.
Step 7: Done!
Done! Be careful! If you shoot this target with an airsoft pistol, the bb might bounce back at you.
