A sandwich is a food typically consisting of vegetables, sliced cheese or meat, placed on or between slices of bread, or more generally any dish wherein two or more pieces of bread serve as a container or wrapper for another food type. This might be the formal definition of a sandwich in Wikipedia, but what it really is a simple yet tasty recipe that can be made by anyone and savored the way they like it.
So with that said, in this Instructable, I'll show you how to make a carrot-veggie toasted sandwich. This is a simple recipe that can be made within 20-25 minutes. So let's get started.
Step 1: The Ingredients
For this yummy mouthwatering recipe, you'll need the following ingredients. This can all be found with ease, and apart from these, you can add more of your choice.
- Carrots (2)
- Red Onion (1)
- Tomatoes (2)
- Salt (1 Tbsp)
- Red Chili Powder (1 Tbsp)
- Mustard Seeds (1 Tsp)
- Turmeric Powder (1 Tsp)
- Oil (2 Tbsp)
- Sandwich Bread
- Butter or Ghee (For Toasting)
Step 2: Prep Em All
First it's better to keep all the vegetables ready before beginning to actually cook.
Peel and wash the carrots. The best way of enjoying carrots in this recipe is when it's grated. So grate the carrots finely. We use the carrots grated because it is cooked easily this way.
Also finely chop the tomatoes and Onions. Now it's time to prepare the filling.
Step 3: The Fillings
To prepare the filling, first place a small frying pan on the stove. Add 2 Tbsp cooking oil into it and let it get heated up. Now, add 1 Teaspoons of mustard into it and wait till the crackling settles down.
Next, add the onions into it and saute it till it turns golden brown in color. Once the onions are cooked, add in the grated carrot and saute till it cooks. Next add the tomatoes also into the pan and cook it till the tomatoes become soft.
Add in 1 tablespoons each of salt and red chili powder into the pan and mix it well. Also add turmeric powder to it and stir well. Once you start to get a nice aroma out of it, turn off the stove and keep the filling aside.
Step 4: Toasting TIme
After you have the fillings ready, it's now time to toast the bread and make the sandwich. You can use any types of bread, be it sandwich bread, or wholegrain bread and what not. Here I have used regular sandwich bread for this recipe
Heat a toasting pan on the stove and butter it up. Once the pan is hot enough, place a slice of bread over it. As the bread is getting toasted, spread some filling on the bread and make a sandwich by pressing another slice of bread on top of it. Flip it over and toast the other side of the sandwich.
Step 5: Serve It Hot !
After you've made one sandwich, repeat it for all the remaining slices. Transfer them on to the serving plate and cut the sandwiches in half.
Serve it alongside some tomato ketchup and you'll have one of the best breakfast ever !
