Boring notebooks getting you down for back to school? Time to kick it up a notch! This DIY craft shows you how to take simple composition notebooks and turning them into a notebook worthy of a chalkboard! The inspiration came from Bethany Mota, whose video entitled "Back to School: DIY Organization! School Supplies and Room Decor" included this special DIY project that you can do for back to school or at anytime of the year! Nice work, Beth!

I went into this link to get inspiration for my own take on the project https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CoCsVC_meE8

Step 1: Supply List

Here's what you will need to make your chalkboard notebooks

  • composition notebook
  • painter's tape
  • chalkboard paint (I bought mine from Joann's)
  • sponge brush
  • decorative tape (like Duck Brand Duct Tape)
  • colored chalk

Step 2: Prep Your Notebook

To start, lay out your notebook and use painter's tape to tape along the spine of your notebook. This is to protect the spine once your start layering on your chalkboard paint.

Step 3: Chalkboard Paint Job

Now, take your chalkboard paint and add about 1 or 2 coats of it to the front of your notebook. Then, set that aside to dry for a few minutes.

Step 4: Add Pizzazz

Finally, add some pizzazz to the notebook spine by laying on some decorative tape. I used a small roll of rainbow printed Duck Brand Duct Tape.

Step 5: Draw on It!

Now, all there's left to do is take some chalk and draw on your chalkboard cover!

Step 6: Chalkboard Notebook Transformation

And that's how to transform a plain old composition notebook into a chalkboard worthy masterpiece! In addition to drawing on your chalkboard notebook, you can buy yourself a chalkboard eraser and remove a design. Then, use your chalk to draw something else on it, like you can draw a design to fit a school semester, season or holiday!
