Introduction: Chameleon Colony

Summary

This project started when my friend who is in the workshop gave me a box full of chameleon parts and said that “What can we do these chameleon parts?” After a while, I finished the project by the aid of my designer friends.

I think I've created a fun project by combining the forest concept with LEDs and adding a simple code.

I hope you will like it... :)

Metarial List

  • Arduino
  • Red-Green-Blue LEDs
  • Potentiometer
  • Perforated Pertinax or Breadboard
  • 3D Chameleon Parts
  • Foamcore
  • Acrylic Paint or Poster Paint
  • Solder
  • Paper
  • Electrical Tape
  • Heat Shrink Tube
  • Jumper Cables
  • Dremel

Step 1: Printer Parts

NOTE:

  • Your should use transparent filament.

Step 2: LED Holes

  • In this project I used 5 chameleon part. If you want you can change the number of chameleon pieces. To each of the chameleon pieces 3 holes are drilled as shown is following picture. The dimaeter of the holes shoul be 3mm. You can use Dremel for drilled.
  • Since I couldn't find RGB LED in the workshop, I used red-green-blue LEDs separately. If you want you can use a single RGB LED. In this case, it is enough to make a hole.

Step 3: Bonding of LEDs

  • Red, green and blue LEDs are glued to the hole.

Step 4: Soldering of Cables

  • Jumper cables solder to the pin of LEDs.
  • I soldered the anode pins of the LEDs with the same color as the LED. I soldered the cathode pins with black cables.
  • You can pour silicone to the solder points to prevent the LEDs from short-circuiting.

Step 5: Placing of Chameleon Parts

  • The places where chameleons stand on the foamcore are marked.

Step 6: Cutting of Foamcore

  • The foamcore cut off from the marked line.

Step 7: Painting of Foamcore

  • The foamcore is painted according to the concept.

Step 8: Bonding of Chameleon Parts

  • Chameleon prints are glued to cut sections.

Step 9: Short Circuit Protection

  • It maybe necessary to extend the cables of the LEDs. For this, additional cables should be soldered to the LEDs. You can use heat shrink tube for prevent short circuit.

Step 10: Potentiometers Holes

  • For potentiometers 3 holes are drilled on the foamcore.

Step 11: Setup of the Circuit

  • The following circuit is installed on perforated pertinax.
  • Potentiometers should be soldered on the perforated pertinax in alignment of holes on the foamcore.

Step 12: Fixing of the Circuit

  • After the circuit is complete, fix to the foamcore as shown in following picture.

Step 13: Leafage

  • Leafages from papers are made for close the behind of the chameleon hole.

Step 14: Bolding of Leafages

  • Leafages from papers are glued behind the chameleon prints as shown in following picture.

Step 15: Final

  • Finally, the project should look like the as shown in following picture.
