Charmander Cake

Introduction: Charmander Cake

About: Hello! I am a psychology student from Belgium. I hope you'll enjoy my tutorials! :)

This tutorial will show you how to make a delicious Charmander cake!

Step 1: Cake From Scratch!

Gooey Chocolate cake recipe:

-7 ounces dark chocolate 60% cacao or higher (200g)

-1/2 cup of unsalted butter at room temperature (110g)

-2/3 cup of granulated white sugar (130g)

-1 cup of all-purpose flour (125g)

-3 large eggs (at room temperature)

-1 teaspoon of vanilla extract

-1/2 teaspoon of baking powder

Place the egg yolks in a large bowl and the whites in another one. Beat the egg yolks with 125g granulated white sugar and 10cl of water until foamy. Add the flour graduately. Melt the chocolate and butter in a microwave. Then add the chocolate mixture to the batter and mix until smooth. You can now add 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract and 1/2 tsp of baking powder to the chocolate cake mixture. In a separate bowl, beat the egg whites until stiff peaks form. Carefully incorporate the beaten egg whites into the cake mixture until evenly mixed. Bake for 20 minutes in a 365 degrees F oven (180 degrees C). (I used the same preparation as in my Chocolate coffins tutorial)

I made two batches of this delicious and gooey chocolate cake.
You will need a silicone rectangular cake pan for Charmander, and a half sphere silicone cake mold to make the pokeball.

Step 2: Pokeball Cake!

Tools and ingredients:
-White fondant or gumpaste

-Powdered sugar

-Red fondant

-Sharp knife

-Rolling pin

-Lemon syrup (for drinks)

-White chocolate

-Two half spheres chocolate cake

First, slice any excess off the flat part of the « half sphere ». Then, you can use melted white chocolate as glue to attach the two half spheres together.

Step 3:

Dust your work surface with powdered sugar and knead the white fondant until nice and smooth. Then roll it out to fit the sphere cake. Drape the sphere with white your fondant and use a sharp knife to trim off any excess.

Cover the lower half of the sphere in red fondant and slice off any excess. Then gently smooth the fondant with your hands. Add some details (as shown on the pictures) with black fondant.

Here's a simple trick for achieving a glossy finish:

Use a pastry brush (or a paint brush) in lemon syrup to cover the pokeball.

Step 4: How to Make a Charmander Cake!

Tools and ingredients:

-White fondant or gumpaste

-Powdered sugar

-Yellow, black and red fondant

-Blue food coloring

-Sharp knife

-Rolling pin

-Ball tool

-Fine tipped paint brush

-Lemon syrup (for drinks)

-Delicious and gooey chocolate cake!

(Optional: Print out the template)

First, cut the cake into tiny pieces. Then let's make the head of this adorable pokemon; Warm up the cake crumbs with your hands and start forming a lump of chocolate cake into a smooth half-sphere. Use the template for guidance and sculpt the body using the same technique.

Lightly smooth the delicious chocolate goo with your finger in order to get a very smooth surface.

Step 5: Let's Cover the Cake With Fondant Icing!

Dust your work surface with powdered sugar. Mix together red and yellow fondant, knead until the fondant is smooth on the outside. Then roll it out to fit the cake,(you can use the template for guidance).

Cover the top of the cake with your fondant and use a sharp knife to trim off any excess fondant.

Step 6: Front Claws

Roll the required amount of fondant into two log shapes. Attach them to the body of your pokemon (you can use a ball tool to blend the seams).

Then use a sharp knife to cut four equal-sized claws as shown in the pictures.

Step 7: Rear Legs & Claws

Roll organe fondant into two large log shapes. Slightly press one end of the log, then form a cute tiny feet as show in the pictures. Attach the legs to the body, using a ball tool to blend the seams.

Next, make holes for the claws. Then use a small amount of white fondant, to make 6 tiny cone shapes (to form claws). Slightly pinch each of these cones as shown in the pictures and insert them into each feet.

Step 8: Belly & Tail

First, you will need to cut two small strips of yellow fondant to go around the belly. Use a sharp knife to trim off any excess fondant, and slightly round the edges.

Cut two long strips of yellow fondant to go around the tail. Using lemon syrup as glue to attach the yellow strips to the tail.

Step 9: The Eyes

Make two large "semi-oval" shapes out of white fondant. Color a small amount of white fondant with blue food coloring and make two smaller semi-oval shapes.

To stick pieces of fondant together, brush a thin coat of lemon syrup on top of each.

Use a small dot of black fondant to make the eye pupil, and add a white dot to each eye, and some highlights (reflection of light source).

I use a fine tipped paintbrush to add a little blue line to the iris, adding the right shadows can give the eyes depth.

Step 10: Finishing Touch(es) !

To sculpt his teeth, make two tiny triangles out of white fondant.

Then, make two little indents to form his nose and sculpt his mouth with a toothpick.

Brush a thin layer of lemon syrup all over your pokemon before serving! ;)

Step 11: ~Enjoy!

Have fun creating your delicious Charmander cake!

I hope you enjoyed this tutorial :)
