This remedy was born from the want to help someone who is very dear to me. Every time I saw her with a cold sore my heart sank thinking about the pain and the way she must feel.
I asked her about cures for it. She went into telling me about the medications available and how they were not effective and that she had tried everything. I said leave it with me and I will see if I can help.
I looked high and low for answers, asking doctors how this virus worked, where it came from and of course if they knew of anything that has worked. Eventually I stumbled across a small piece of writing somewhere that shared a great idea. I can't for the life of me find it again, it's probably been removed, but I want to thank the author who helped me discover this.
My hope is that cold sore sufferers can finally find some relief and maybe even rid themselves of the virus symptoms for good.

Step 1: What Is a Cold Sore?
If you are reading this, chances are you know what a cold sore virus is.
For the people who do not know, here is a description commonly used:
Cold sores are blisters around the mouth and nose, caused by the herpes simplex virus.
Herpes simplex is not uncommon in humans. One study showed at least 90% of American adults have been exposed to the virus. An estimated 67% of people globally are effected by the virus.
Why does the sore only appear sometimes?
Though those exposed to the virus have it laying dormant in their system at all times, the cold sores only flare up occasionally. This causes a physical blister formed by the virus when the body is under stress.
You might be one of the lucky people who do not have flare ups turning into a physical blister, but msot people do.
How do you get this virus?
You can contract this virus through sharing oral fluids. Kissing, eating utensils, drinking glasses and open sores.
Step 2: What You Will Need
! WARNING ! This instructable contains the use of a substance that is banned in some countries.
If you live in an area where your government has banned the use of this plant, please be careful collecting what you need. For the purpose of this instructable, I am using oregano in place of raw organic cannabis buds.
You will need:
- Rubbing alcohol or a pure grade of alcohol - the purer the better
- A small brown or green glass jar or bottle (about 30ml) The colour of the glass helps preserve the mix
- A lighter or heat source
- The most potent cannabis buds you can find. Try to keep these whole and not ground up. Look for dried buds where you can physically see the crystals on them.
Step 3: Add Buds to Alcohol
Take your fresh buds and add them to your alcohol. Add as many as you can fit in your reservoir with only a little bit of room for them to move about in the solution. Oregano isn't the best for showing this but you get the idea. Keeping the buds whole ensures that the maximum amount of resin is dissolved.
Step 4: Shake
Once all the buds have been added, give the solution a good shake. You want to keep shaking till you see the plant matter start to break apart in the solution.
Step 5: Heat
Next you want to gently heat the bottle. Do this with care, only heating for a short time and then removing from the heat, then repeating. Glass is under tension and heating one side of your bottle will cause it to break. Rotate the bottle and only heat for 5 second intervals repeatedly till it's almost too hot to touch. Shake in between.
Step 6: Wait
Let this mix sit on your shelf somewhere safe for a long time - about a month. When you walk past it, give it a good shake and sit it right back up there.
Step 7: Use It
After your long wait you are now ready to use it directly on your cold sore. Use a cotton bud or Q-tip to take a tiny bit of the solution and apply it on your cold sore.
For best results, apply this before the sore even shows up - when you feel that tingling sensation - and continue to apply every few hours over the next few days.
When she applied it to a tingly area on her lip, some sores never came to the surface and instead left. The next sore would not come up in that area and instead chose another spot on her lip. She has now done this for over a year and rarely gets cold sores anymore. From a cold sore every two weeks to barely a sore in 6 months. Makes me happy every time I see her face when she comes to visit.
Hope this helps millions of people and thanks again to the guy or girl who wrote about their idea all those years ago. You're a true hero!!
