I needed a birthday gift for my friend's daughter and i didn't want to just buy her any thing instead i decided to DIY this gift so this instructable shows the process of its made.

Step 1: What We Will Make

basically this box lights a color for each combination of the switches as follows:

  • Red
  • Green
  • Blue
  • Red + Green = Yellow.
  • Red + Blue = Violet.
  • Blue + Green = Turquoise.
  • Red + Green + blue = White

Step 2: What You Need

3x Push button switches

1x RGB LED 5mm

1x USB Connector "A" Type Male

1x DC Power 2.1mm Connector on PCB

1x DC Power 2.1mm Barrel Plug

1x 1K Ohm 1/4-Watt Resistor

1x 220 Ohm 1/4-Watt Resistor

2x 100 Ohm 1/4-Watt Resistor

1x LED 3mm

1x 1N4001 Diode

1x 3.7v Battery

Step 3: The Board

With the attached eagle files you can either make it in home using the Toner Transfer Method or you just manufacture board.

Here i used Toner Transfer Method You can find many tutorials for this method if you're not familiar with it like this one as a start https://www.instructables.com/id/PCB-Making-My-Method/

Step 4: The Box

we will need an enclosure for our board here i made it out of wood but any plastic box will do.

next we need to drill holes for mounting the switches 2 for each and one 10 mm hole for the LED.

to give the box a nice finish i covered it with white sticker paper.

Step 5: Soldering

we will start with the switches and solder 2 pieces of wire to each one after securing it to the box with glue.

then the rest of the components will be soldered according to the schematic.

the battery used here is an old phone battery (800 mah) but any 3.7v lipo battery can be used.

then soldering the other end of the switches wires to the board and placing the board in the box before closing it.

Step 6: The Cable

in this step we will make the charging cable we only need to solder 2 wires:

  • the positive of the barrel plug with the positive of the usb connector (the first pin from the right)
  • the negative of the barrel plug with the negative of the usb connector (the first pin from the left)

Step 7: Play

after closing the box try pushing each switch and watch the colors changes.

that's it you made it.

That's a cute toy :) It's like an early version of Simon Says.
