Introduction: Comm 101 How to Get Dressed for Hockey!

I am going to teach you how to put on hockey gear. Believe it or not, there is a method to this madness. I will go through each step, step by step.

Step 1: Jock Strap/Pants (Breezers)

For step 1, I am going to put on a jock strap (which I am not going to show, as it is an undergarment). You put them on as you would underwear. So we will now continue to the next step. To pants/breezers, you put them on like normal pants and pull them up around your waist. You clip them to tighten them. Make sure they are tight or they may fall down during a game.

Step 2: Skates

Step 2: Skates

Skates are the most difficult piece of equipment to put on. They must be put on a surface that is not cement or pavement, as your blade will be damaged. You put your skates on like a shoe. The difficult part is tightening them. It is absolutely necessary to tie them to a snug comfortable fit. If they are too loose, your ankles will not have any support.

Step 3: Shin Pads

Step 3: Shin pads

Shin pads are put on your knees and shins. You match left with left and right with right. You place them on and velcro them around your leg. Again, keep them snug so they do not slip around.

Step 4: Shoulder Pads

Step 4: Shoulder pads

Shoulder pads are placed over your head and put on snug around your shoulders. They velcro around your arms and around your chest. The jersey will eventually go over the shoulder pads.

Step 5: Elbow Pads

Step 5: Elbow pads

Elbow pads are matched by your left and right elbows. You place each pad on the right elbow and velcro it around tightly. They will slip if they are not put on correctly.

Step 6: Helmet

Step 6: Helmet

The helmet is placed on your head and fastened tightly. It is very important to have a helmet that is tight to assist in keeping your head safe, in the case of a fall or collision.

Step 7: Gloves

Step 7: Gloves

The last step in getting dressed is putting your gloves on the appropriate hand. They will protect your hands from sticks and pucks.

Step 8: Empty Bag

Your gear should now all be on and you should be ready to play the game. As you can see, my bag is now empty. Good luck and have fun!
