Hello, I'm Christy and I am going to show you how to make a pomp om rug. They look very homey in the house and are extremely soft and comfortable to walk on. They can be used in any part of the house but look best in the bathroom or bedroom. I am going to show you all the steps to get a perfect and neat rug. I have made a couple of pomp om rugs and am experienced in how to make them properly.

Step 1:

The first step is to gather the supplies. Purchase any color of yarn at either Walmart or Hobby Lobby. It can be a couple different colors of yarn or just one color. Also, purchase a tapestry mat Walmart, Hobby Lobby, or Target and it can be any shape and then purchase scissors at one of the stores as well.

Step 2:

Next, take the yarn and wrap it around either hand as many times wanted depending on how big the pomp oms are wanted to be. Make sure to hold the hand in a high five position and to just wrap it around all fingers except the thumb. Try to keep the amount of times the yarn is wrapped around over 60 times because it will make the pomp oms looks fuller and neater.

Step 3:

Next, slowly and carefully slip the yarn off the hand and then cut the string of yarn off that is still attached to the bundle.

Step 4:

After that, cut a new piece of yarn off the bundle of yarn that is around 12 inches. Lay the piece of yarn down so that it is laying vertically on a flat surface and then lay the yarn that was wrapped around the hand on top of the piece that is laying down vertically. Make sure that the yarn that was wrapped around the hand is laying so that the loops of the yarn are laying horizontally.

Step 5:

After that, grab each side of the single piece of string and wrap it around the yarn that was wrapped around the hand and tie a tight knot around it. Then, use the scissors to cut the loops on both sides of the knot to make and it will look like a pomp om when finished cutting.

Step 6:

Finally, take the 2 strings that are tied in a knot and then pull both of the strings through one hole of the tapestry mat and then tie a knot on the opposite side that the strings were pulled through and then cut the strings. That should make you a perfect properly made pomp om rug.
