Introduction: Cork Board Phone Dock

About: I like making things and I'm good at breaking things.

I wanted to make a phone dock out of woods, but unfortunately, I do not have those high-tech tools for cutting and drilling it. So, I decided to use some cork board instead (close enough).

Inspiration taken from:

Things you’ll need:

  • Cork board(s) – mine is about 1 cm thick
  • Carving knifes
  • Cutting board
  • A phone
  • Charging cord
  • Ruler
  • Marker
  • Hemp rope (optional)
  • Decorative stuff (optional)
  • Tools for boiling water
  • Kitchen clamp for steaming the cork

Step 1: Cutting

Depending on the size of the cork board and the size of your phone, measure and cut the cork into pieces. Also, remember that the thickness of all the pieces added together must be enough for the charging cord to ‘stand straight’.

Step 2: More Cutting… and Measuring

For the first piece of cork:

This is my measurements. Again, it depends on the phone you have.

Use a marker to mark the area where you want your phone to sit

Cut it with a carving knife. Try cutting them into pieces instead of removing it all at once for a better finish.

Step 3: Drilling

For the second piece of cork:

Drill a hole for the cord

Step 4: More Drilling

Drill a hole for the cord (repeat step 3) and make a track for the it

Step 5: Steaming

Steam the dock in order to prevent excessive crumb from falling off it. It takes a bit time, and from my experience, steaming three boards at a time is much faster than steaming just one.

Step 6: Decorating

You can do whatever you like here, but I decided to use some hemp rope and tie it around the dock.

Step 7: Done!
