Crab Food Bottle Survival Kit

This is my first instructable, so please no bad critisisim. But feel free to comment!

Step 1: Intro

Things you will need:
Crab food bottle ( Or a big pill bottle or a small pill bottle)
ten matches (strike anywere or regular)
plastic grochery bag (or a big one if it can fit)
14ft string
8 matches without the heads (optional)
rubber bands (optional)
soda can tab (optional)

The reason a crab food bottle is beacus it is all I had at the timeand it is waterproof! :)

Step 2: Creating

Take the plastic bag and fold it till you cant fold it any more, then place it in the bottle.

Step 3: Next Step

Then add the matches on the side of the plastic bag. Make sure the matches are squshed between the bottle wall and the plastic bag. Also make sure that the matches are down all the way so the cap can be put on tightly.

Step 4: Almost Done

then take the matches with no heads and put them in like the other matches (if you dont want the matches with no heads in,used to start fires or kindling, then skip this step)!

Step 5: Close to Done

take the rubber band and fold it till it fits on the trash bag.

Step 6: Last Step

After that, take the string and wrap it around your finger loosely, but not so loose that it will slip off,but not so tight that you lose circulation in your finger either. Then take the collied string and push it down in the bottle hard and make sure that the cap can be put on nice and tight. And last but not least add the soda can tab on top of string!

feel free to mod it and tell me what I can do to inprove it!!!

Step 7: Info

There, Your all set and hopefully you never have to use it but just in case you get seperated from a group in the wilderness your set for the most part. Oh and you should put some fishing hooks and line in there too put duct tape or electrical tape on the ends of the hooks!!!! Got any questions? Feel free to ask!

ah, you have proven me wrong. you do have to admit it is a rather odd commodity. but as i said before, it is still a good idea. i would, however, suggest that you do go the extra mile and get strike anywhere matches, they are the best. dont get those ohio blue ones though, theyll light if you so much as look at them wrong.

I'll have to look up those Ohio Matches. My Green Diamond strike anywhere barely light from the "Friction Strips" on the side of the box without losing the Phosperous tip and becoming hot kindling. No matter if I strike softly, mostly works better. or when the tips get polished from that, striking firmly usually removes the end tip. I think I'll Email them about their competitors, Ohio brand. I figure I'd leave the heads on every match I could store. Thanks. G-G

Good Job! I'd add a couple of safety pins - very versatile and not much in volume. Also a piece of striking paper (from the side of the match box) would fit nicely inside of the lid.

Yup I'd do that too the strikers would be a must for Me too. And I figure the bigger Safety pins make stronger hooks, plus a bit of flash usually attracts. I've caught Sunfish using Willow leaves or a short bit of fly line on a hook like that. YUP.!

I dont even feed my crabs and they dont die! Does feeding them make them stop itching? i find the itching so irritating, hot water does not work either. Anyone have a DiY for getting rid of crabs?

might I suggest instead of matches which you can only use once, a glasses lens or magnifying glass you can start a fire with these (during the day) and use it over and over but you should leave some matches in there in case you get stuck at night

Great firt Instructible! I have hermit crabs and that same food container so I can make a ton for my family when we go on hikes! And also I sugggest that you put all ten essentials in It.

10 years ago on Step 6

You need to add a razor blade and fishing hooks.

10 years ago on Step 7

If I may add something to pins. You can use these to make fishing hooks. You'll have to use the small ones, not the ones used for diapers. You can use the string for fishing line.

good instruc... but i c a flaw in your logic. if you put in matches without the heads just for might as well put in whole matches because u still have the stick, just an added bonus on the top.
