This Instructable is going to teach you how to make a hammock pouch thing to carry your pet rat (or any other rodent really) around! It only takes about 5 minutes to make! It fits an adult rat great. Any animal larger would probably be a bit too big to fit well.
A Toms shoe bag
A chain that you can pick up at Wal-Mart in the jewelry craft isle.
(the length should be measured be taking the chain while it is clicked together and taking one end and placing it behind your neck. Then the other end should hang down your chest about half way down your torso.
I had some extra blue tape laying around so I used that. But any color works. Wal-Mart has a HUGE selection of colors and patterns.
Step 1: Getting the Toms Bag Ready
First, synch the bag all the way using the string already looped in the bag.
Second, fold the bag so the two metal loops on the opposite corners meet.
Step 2: Now for the Chain!
Run the chain through the metal loops.
Then, run the chain through the string synch on the other end of the bag.
After that, click the chain together and voila!
Step 3: Right When You Thought It Was Over..
Cut a piece of duct tape that is the length of the bag from the metal loops with the chain, down to the bare corner below. Set this piece of tape to the side, sticky side facing up. You'll use this in minute.
Now, make a thin fold in the bag on the end oppisite of the synch.
While holding the fold down, place the folded end on top of the tape you just cut.
Fold the tape over to close the opening in the fold of the bag. I decided to strengthen this part because the one piece of tape seemed like it might fall off over time. All you have to do to make it stronger is fold two horizontal strips of tape over the tape you already have on the bag.
Step 4: All Done!!
Now you and your pet rat (or rodent) can enjoy each other's company everywhere! The bag is great for walking around the house or calming him/her at the vet in the waiting room.
I hope this makes some happy ratlettes!! Please leave comments if you have any questions or if you wanna say what your pet thinks of it! My rat Shaniqua loves it!
