Introduction: Crochet a Penguin Bib

Lion Brand has a lot of great  patterns for free. I really liked their Owl Bib www.lionbrand.com/patterns/90157AD.html but I decided to change it up a bit so all I did was change the colors of the yarn and add a couple of more rows to make it a little longer. What it turned out to be was a Penguin Bib.

Step 1: What You'll Need:

2. Vanna's Choice Black Yarn
3. Vanna's Choice White Yarn
4. Orange Yarn
5. Crochet Hook - Size G-6
6. Stitch Markers
7. Large-Eye Blunt Needle

Step 2: Crocheting the Bib

Change the colors to:
Colors A and C = White
Colors B = Black
Colors D = Orange
BIB
With A, ch 17.
Row 1: 2 sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in each ch across to last ch, 2 sc in last ch – 18 sts.
Row 2: Ch 1, turn, 2 sc in 2nd ch from hook (increase made), sc in each sc across to last sc, 2 sc in last sc – 20 sts at end of row.
Rows 3 and 4: Rep Row 2 – 24 sts at end of Row 4.
Row 5: Ch 1, turn, sc in each st across.
Rows 6-21: Rep Row 5. At end of Row 14, cut A, change to B.
Rows 20-26: With B, rep Row 5.
Row 27: Ch 2, turn, hdc2tog, hdc in each of next 6 sts, sc in each of next 8 sts, hdc in each of next 6 sts, hdc2tog – 22 sts remaining at end of row.
Row 28: Ch 2, turn, hdc2tog, hdc in each of next 5 sts, sc in each of next 8 sts, hdc in each of next 5 sts, hdc2tog – 20 sts.
Row 29: Ch 2, turn, hdc2tog, hdc in each of next 4 sts, sc in each of next 8 sts, hdc in each of next 4 sts, hdc2tog – 18 sts.
Row 30: Ch 2, turn, hdc2tog, hdc in each of next 3 sts, sc in each of next 8 sts, hdc in each of next 3 sts, hdc2tog – 16 sts.
Work 1 rnd sc evenly spaced around entire outside edge of Bib. Fasten off.

Step 3: Crocheting the Eyes

INNER EYES (make 2)
With B, ch 2.
Rnd 1: Work 6 sc in first ch. Fasten off.

OUTER EYES (make 2)
With C, ch 2.
Rnd 1: Work 6 sc in first ch. Place marker in first st for beg of rnd; move marker up as each rnd is completed. Work in continuous rnds, do not join or turn.
Rnd 2: Work 2 sc in each st around – 12 sts at end of rnd.
Rnd 3: *2 sc in next st, sc in next st, rep from * around – 18 sts. Fasten off.

Step 4: Crocheting the Beak, Wings and Finishing Up.

BEAK (make 1)
With D, ch 9.
Row 1: Sc2tog in 2nd ch from hook, sc in each of next 4 sts, sc2tog – 6 sts at end of row.
Row 2: Ch 1, turn, sc2tog, sc in each of next 2 sts, sc2tog – 4 sts.
Row 3: Ch 1, turn, sc2tog, sc2tog – 2 sts.
Row 4: Ch 1, turn, sc2tog – 1 st. Fasten off.

WINGS (make 2)
With B, ch 2.
Rnd 1: Work 8 sc in first ch. Place marker in first st for beg of rnd; move marker up as each rnd is completed. Work in continuous rnds, do not join or turn.
Rnd 2: Work 2 sc in each st around – 16 sts at end of rnd.
Rnds 3-7: Sc in each st around – 16 sts.
Rnd 8: Sc2tog around – 8 sts. Fasten off.

TIES (make 2)
From right side, join B with slip st at one upper corner of Bib. Ch 40. Fasten off. Rep on opposite corner.

FINISHING
Sew Inner Eyes to Outer Eyes. Sew Eyes, Beak and Wings to Bib. Weave in ends.
This was a very easy pattern and I finished it in a day in between Family, household chores and the usual Mommy Duties.
