This is a project that me and a few of my classmates in my high school physics class made. Our end goal was to design, build a working CubeSat that would orbit Mars and collect data. This project included building the frame of the CubeSat, wiring the Arduino and then program the Arduino. the sensor we used was an ultrasonic sensor that measured the distance between two objects.

The rules for the project were the whole Arduino with everything in it had to weigh less than 1.3Kg, it must be a 10X10X10 cm cube, and the frame has to protect the Arduino, and allow it to collect data

Step 1: Materials

Arduino
  • Arduino UNO
  • SD card module
  • SD card
  • Ultrasonic sensor
  • Breadboard
  • Wires
  • Batteries

CubeSat

  • Cardboard
  • Scissors
  • Yarn
  • Popsicle Sticks
  • Hot Glue

Step 2: Wiring and Coding

  1. Hook up the Arduino to the computer
  2. Wire up the Auduino just like the diagram
  3. Copy code and put into the IDE an upload it to the Arduino

Step 3: The CubeSat

Cut out 6 10x10cm pieces of cardboard

On one piece, cut two holes for the ultrasonic sensor to fit through

Glue the pieces together into a cube but leave the top off

Cut the Popsicle sticks into smaller pieces so the will fit flush inside the CubeSat

Glue two Popsicle sticks for each corner to re-enforce the corners

Poke two holes on two sides towards the top of the and run two pieces of string thought them and tie them in a knot at the top.
