In this Instructable I'll show you how to make a base cabinet with drawers and pull out trays for your garage or shop. The assembly goes quickly with easy joinery and the whole base and drawers can be made from just 2 sheets of 3/4" plywood and 1 sheet of 1/4". Add another sheet of 3/4" for the top or use solid wood. Step 1: Gather Tools and Materials

(7) 22" Drawer Slides
(2 pair) 110 degree euro hinges
(7) drawer/door pulls
(6) 3/8" t-nuts
(6) 3/8"x2" carriage bolts
1-1/4" pocket screws
1-1/4" wood screws

Step 2: Assemble Cabinet Carcass

I started by cutting the sides, and horizontal supports for the cabinet carcass. The cabinet is 5' wide, 33-1/2" tall and 24" deep. The sides are joined together by the horizontal supports.

Assembling the horizontal supports to one side of the cabinet first then flipping it over and finishing off the other side makes assembly the easiest.

I cut a notch at the bottom of the cabinet for a toe kick and installed a kick plate which supports the lower front support.

Step 3: Install the Dividers

The cabinet has two dividers that make the three bays of the cabinet. Each divider is joined to the top and bottom supports with pocket hole joinery.

The dividers will hold the drawer slides in later steps.

Step 4: Assemble the Trays and Drawers

I cut parts for all the pull out trays and the drawers. The trays are 2" tall and the drawers are 4-1/2" and 7".

Grooves on the bottom of the trays and drawers will hold a 1/4" bottom panel and are cut on the table saw.

I assembled the trays with brad nails and glue and used pocket hole joinery for the drawers which will receive false drawer fronts during assembly.

Each drawer and tray gets a 1/4" bottom panel that is secured with panhead screws.

Step 5: Install the Trays and Drawers

I installed the trays and drawers with 22" drawer slides. The lower slides are shimmed up and the up slides are measured and mounted using a drawer slide jig.

The slides are screwed to the cabinet first on each side. 3 screws per slide hold it in place.

Then put the drawer or tray in place and pull out the slide arms and screw in two screws per side. Then remove the drawer and install the third screw in the back.

Step 6: Mount the Doors and Drawer Fronts

Next I mounted the doors and false drawer fronts to the cabinet. I used a concealed hinge jig to drill holes for euro hinges for the doors. The mount pretty easily using the included hardware.

Each drawer got a false front put on it which was screwed on from the inside.

Then I attached cabinet hardware using a cabinet hardware jig. I used metal pulls but want to replace them with wooden ones eventually.

Step 7: Make and Secure the Top

I made the top from a piece of 3/4" plywood but trimmed it with 1-1/2" maple for a thicker look and more durable edge. I secured the trim to the plywood with pocket screws and trimmed the front piece to size with a flush trim saw.

I put a small roundover on the top with my trim router and sanded the whole thing to 180 grit. I applied 3 coats of water based poly to the top and 2 coats to the cabinet before assembly.

The top attaches to the cabinet with screws through the upper support and into spacers on the underside of the top.
