I have seen many good videos and instructions on making your own bicycle repair stand out of pvc pipe, black iron pipe and fittings. I wanted something a bit more simple that was quick and used items I have around the garage.

Step 1: Using a Rope and Aluminum Clip to Lift Back Wheel Off Ground
Get some rope and an one of the inexpensive aluminum carabiner clips. Tie on to an overhead beam or rafter. Wrap it under the seat and lift so back wheel is up off the ground a few inches. Tie a loop in your rope so that the when the clip will hold the bike up off the ground.
