Introduction: DIY Hexagon Display Shelves

About: Maker based in ATL, I love to make new things and learn along the way. I want to share my learning experiences with others so they can be inspired to make the things they want as well.

I didn't want boring normal floating shelves, so I made floating hexagons! These hexagon shelves were really easy and quick to make!

Step 1: Materials

-1x6 boards of your choosing, I just used common boards from The Home Depot

-D Rings:https://amzn.to/2HD99Nt

-Wood Filler: https://amzn.to/2uuOen2

-Baseboard Paint (Any white paint will do)

Step 2: Measure and Mark

I measured 10" lengths of board and marked them. You could make yours whatever length you want depending on what size shelf you want to make.

Step 3: Cut!

Make 30-degree cuts with both facing inwards on each piece.

Cut 6 pieces per shelf.

Step 4: Glue and Nail

I used masking tape to hold the pieces together, then put Gorilla Wood Glue on the joints before assembly. I used a brad nailer for final assembly, and to give the shelves just a tad more strength.

Step 5: Wood Filler

Since the boards I used weren't perfect and neither were my cuts, I used wood filler to fill in the gaps before painting.

Step 6: Don't Forget to Sand

Sand down all the wood filler and the surface of the wood to give it a better surface finish before painting.

Step 7: Paint

I painted the shelves using a roller and the leftover baseboard paint from remodeling my room. You could use whatever paint you want, including spray paint.

Step 8: Add Hangers

To hang up my shelves I used D Ring hangers, I just thought they would be the best option to use for the weight and size of the shelves. Feel free to let me know what you think would work better in the comments!

Step 9: Hang It

Using the spacing I used on the shelves I screwed in a couple of screws in the wall and then hung up the shelves from those.

Step 10: You're Done!

You're done, enjoy them! I may change around what I put in them, but here's what I displayed in my shelves!
