Intro: DIY Mixed Media Bracelet
It's fun trying out junk and mixed media crafts, because the possible outcomes are unlimited! Besides you don't have to worry about the supplies since you can use anything and everything around you.
I made this bracelet using a few gemstones, scrap leather and craft wire. It turns out quite nice and you can easily create variations by using different colored wire, beads and leather.
Check out the tutorial!
Step 1: Materials Needed
To make this bracelet you'll need:
- Leather (strip),
- Craft wire - 18 gauge,
- Jewelry pliers,
Step 2: Wiring the Beads
Hold the wire from an end without cutting it from the bundle,
Thread the gemstones into the craft wire. Beading length shouldn't be more than 4-5 cm.
When you're done beading cut the wire and make small loops on both ends to secure the beads.
Step 3: Wrapping the Leather Strip
Prepare leather strip. Wrap the leather strip around your wrist 3 times and then cut the strip.
Hold the leather strip from an end.
Create a small loop on the craft wire and hold it along with the leather strip as shown in the 2nd picture of this step.
Coil the looped wire with the leather strip, I coiled around 1 cm.
Similarly create a loop and coil the other end.
Step 4: Making the Hook
You can make an 'S' hook easily from craft wire.
Use the looping pliers to create an 'S' pattern with the craft wire (see picture),
Use the flat nose pliers to bend the open ends of the 'S' to 90 degrees or so, now press the bent part towards the middle wire and join them together,
Cut off extra wire to make it shorter than the middle wire.
Similarly bend and create the other side of the hook.
'S' hooks are great for bracelets as you can easily open and close them using one hand.
Step 5: Attaching All Parts
Attach the wired beads, coiled leather and hook together. You can add extra chains if you want to, but I didn't.
Simply wrap the bracelet around your wrist and close the bracelet by inserting the hook through the loop on the other end.
Try making one and share a picture of it :)
