Are you already waiting for the summertime? Would you to decorate your garden in a simple yet pleasant way? Would you create a space where you can chill? I had basically the same wishes and because of that I start thinking about a project that could satisfy my needs and let me be prepared for the summer heat!

Step 1: Why PlayWood?

I decided to build a wooden bench all by myself, without really knowing how to do it. I wanted a piece of furniture easy to be transported and folded during the winter; something cheap or at least cost-effective yet nice and modern. Since I am not an expert DIY, I decided to use the PlayWood connectors system because they allow beginners to make design modular furniture in a simple, fast and creative way.

Of course you can use common metallic angle, but I didn’t want to nail or drill the material, so the PlayWood assembly system was the best solution for me!

Step 2: What Do I Need?

I bought some OSB boards of a thickness between 16 and 19 mm (¾” and ⅞”) because I believe this variety of wood is quiche and country so it’s perfect for a backyard!

Further to this, I used:

  • 8 PlayWood Connectors 90°
  • 1 OSB Board 100 x 60 cm - 39,37” x 23,62”
  • 1 OSB Board 80 x 60 cm - 31,50” x 23,62”
  • 2 OSB Boards 80 x 40 cm - 31,50” x 15,75”

Step 3: How Do I Build It?

The assembly was basically easy peasy: I used the wooden board 80 x 60 cm as basement of my structure and joint it to other two smaller panels, through PlayWood high-quality plastic connectors

Doing so I obtained both the basement and the side walls of my rectangular structure. Above this structure, I joint the largest wooden panels and covered the structure using it as a top. Since this panel is longer than the structure below, it can also be seen as a storage for stuff, books and tools in case of a summer rainy day.

Step 4: What Are You Waiting For?

I’m pretty happy with this result: In less than 10 minutes I got a piece of furniture for my backyard. It was easy to assemble and it will easy to fold at the end of the summer. In addition to this, thanks to the PlayWood assembly system, I didn’t drill or nail any of the materials, so I could possibly re-design the furniture in a different way once I’ll want to.
